I like a clean sheet mentality and an excellent goalkeeping display can be very exciting but we all know that the real buzz of football is seeing the ball nestling in the old onion bag.

Last season the relegated teams in this division averaged 48 goals whilst the mid-table teams (11th to 14th) averaged 58 goals. The top two (Bristol City and MK Dons) averaged 98! The automatic promotion teams from Division 4 averaged only 65.

So who is going to score the goals for us this season?

Working on a target of 58 (mid-table) I would suggest that we will be highly reliant on the midfield regularly chipping in along the way .........

Hunt 10
Mooney 12
A. Loan-striker(s) 6
Williams 0 (not being horrible but he might be out on loan)
Timlin 4
Payne 6
Leonard 5
Wordsworth 6
Worral 3
Hurst 1
Barrett 2
Bolger 1
Coker 1
White 1
Bentley - errh ........ none

Any thoughts?

Nothing horrible about it, if he's here he's not going to play. It's far too early for him and he's nowhere near ready, a season on loan somewhere would do him good. Can't see too many takers in L2 but maybe the Conference.

Mathematically you would only need to score 46 six goals and the title could be yours, last year with extra ability in the last 3rd I do think we could of been unbeaten at home, by turning loses todraws and those draws to wins. I think part of PB philosophy is "If you don't conced you don't lose".

Most teams are weaker than we are defensively, I think we can get away with a few less goals than the average to stay up.

It's funny you say that, I now see our defence as our weakest area now. Obviously we need another 1 or 2 strikers.

I think Wordy will be the key player this season,an excellent signing IMO and hopefully may score double figures and several assists.

to be fair the target seems reasonable and a mid table finish on the cards. If only football was that easy we are as liable to go up again as down to be fair.

Excited to see Payne wearing the number 10 shirt. He'll absolutely thrive as a number 10 and I can see him really kicking on this season and becoming one of our most important players. The boy's talent is underestimated sometimes.

Agree with this, some people think he wont start that much but I think he may do. It's a better league and he could be like how Ben Reeves was for MK Dons.

I remember after Tranmere away and he had torn them to pieces, Brown said he was a 'magician'. He really can be when players are supporting him in the right way, making space for him to run into etc. Hunt and Mooney will certainly do this a lot more than Corr ever could.

Admittedly he won't start every game but it's nice to know we have two creative mid-fielders in Payne and Wordsworth to call upon now.
