Get of the mans back

Tilly hates yellow boots

TBV Drummer Supreme
I no everyone is aloud there own opition, but he has had ONE start the poor guy. Yes he did cost a bit compared to other players that maybe we could have gone for.
But doesn't this mean we should give him more time because Tilly believes he is worth it and he is not going to pay £200,000 for a rubbbish player, give him time and im sure Tilly will be proven right, and Paynter will bang in 10 goals this season and do what he was brought for and throw his weight around and create stuff for others.
Port vale & Hull are sad to see him go, and they have seen alot more of him then we have!

RANT over.

Like I said in my other post, we should give Paynter a chance - get a run in the side and gel etc.

As for throwing his weight around - didnt see any of that today and he never won a ball in the air. All the time he was pushed around and looking to the ref for a foul.

In fairness to him he has just come back from an injury too so probably not 100% and definately not 100% match fit. Give him 5 games or so to bed into the side.

No need to slag him yet!!

I hope you are right

I agree that he needs match practice, but there wasn't any positives to to take from his performance today. Nothing to make me say "he did this well / did that well and he'll be even better when he is match fit."
I think a run in the team will definately help Billy and then we will see what he's about.

From the reports on Billy I read when we signed him (from Hull fans in particular) they were delighted to get such a fee for him - most weren't really bothered he was going which added to the 10-12 times I'd seen him play in the past didn't inspire me with confidence.

Look I'll back Paynter every single time he steps out in a Blues shirt and Tilly hasn't put a foot wrong in the transfer market before and deserves my trust and everyone else's but I just think £200k for a player like Paynter is way over the odds. If Clarke's worth £250k then Paynter looks to be a very expensive signing. I really do hope the lad proves me wrong but my Dad's mate is a Vale fan and didn't rate him - and to be honest when I've been to Vale in the past with my Dad and his mate to see them play he's been very poor. He certainly doesn't look like a Championship player to me - personally I think if we'd have had him in L2/L1 he'd have done very well for us as a battering ram but you need much more than that in the CCC and I see nothing in Billy that makes me think he has that something more. Now some people would say thats OK if he's a goalscorer a la Bretty Angell and I agree but his goalscoring record is poor also - 30 goals in 5 years.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion - mine is that Agogo has the ability and the "something extra" to do very well at this level and would have been well worth £200-250k and in the case of Hayes he's a half-decent goalscorer (enough to take some of the responsibility off Freddy at any rate) with a decent footballing brain and to offer only half of what we paid for Billy and no more seems a strange decision to me. As I said before Tilly is practically faultless in his decision-making and it doesn't feel right questioning him but I'm quite sure I'm not the only one who was shocked not only at the signing of Paynter but in particular the size of the fee.

We need Ricketts back, and back FIT more importantly - the sooner the better. Even a Michael Ricketts at 70% at the moment though would surely be better than any other opption we have to partner Freddy.

On a positive note I've been very impressed at how we've started the season, I'm certain we'll comfortably consolidate in this division and I'm sure once we pick up our first points on the road we'll be okay away from Roots Hall.

i agree billy seems like a good player and lets face facts tilly aint brought to many bad forwards to this clubs has he I.E freddy eastwood

Its already been proved that Hayes and Paynter has very similar goal ratios - something like 30 odd in 110 or so games.

Personally, all the times I've seen Hayes I've been unimpressed, so lets stop worrying about other teams players and start backing our own.

I posted this in another thread about Billy, so thought I would add it here as it may be more relevant:

Paynter - First start and it was clear that he and Freddy had forged little understanding as a partnership. We all know that this will take a series of games, so get off the guy's back and show the man some support FFS!!! For what it's worth, I thought that he put in a lot of effort today, won a fair few fouls from their centre halves (whilst giving a few away too!) and his general hold up play/linking with the midfield was pretty good. What was clear was the lack of understanding with Freddy and the fact that he didn't get a sniff in the final third at all, which could be levelled at all of our team today!! Give him time to settle and get into it and I'm sure he will be a good signing for us. A mate of mine is a Vale fan and was pleased as punch for me when he heard that we had signed him. He said he always gives 100% effort and scored some great goals for them. Give him time and support and I hope he will do the same for us.

Yes but the difference is Hayes was played out wide in his 1st season at Scunny thus limiting his opportunities and when moved up top got 27 goals in their promotion season in L2 so has at least had a prolific season behind him proving that he can score consistently given good service.

And the diffference is, Paynter is a Southend player and Hayes is not. Get behind him and im sure he will come good.

Looks like a very expensive Graeme Jones to me! Back to the goal and can't jump, a Tilly mistake me thinks!

What i've seen of him this season, he doesn't look all that.

Time will tell!
what striker can you get for £200 k ?

For a half decent striker your looking at £500 k minimum
