Great support - for Southend United against Oldham Athletic (Image: Lucy Copsey)

By Chris Phillips. Chief sports reporter.

FUNDRAISING plans are in place to further boost Southend United’s support at Roots Hall.

More than 8,000 fans roared the Shrimpers on to a 1-0 win against Oldham Athletic last time out – with the North Bank particularly vociferous.

And the Shrimpers Trust are now urging fans to back the Blue Voice in their bid to help Kevin Maher’s side in their push to reach the play-offs.

The Trust’s Liam Ager explained: "With one of the #FinalFour complete, it's clear to see the difference that a loud and passionate crowd can make at home. The North Bank of Roots Hall is back!

“The Trust is delighted to be running a fundraising scheme to help The Blue Voice with flags, balloons, banners and other accessories to further turn up the volume in the North Bank and across the ground for the last few games of the season.

“The club have generously offered to match-fund any donations for this scheme up to £2,500.

“That means for every penny you put in, the club does too.

“Anyone is welcome to give and for those that aren't used to singing or dancing in the stands or even those that can't make home matches regularly, this is still a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the #SeaOfBlue at Roots Hall.

“Trust membership is not required to make a donation.

“If you're able to, we encourage all fans to use the link here where you can select "The Blue Voice" as a cause."

Funny how now people see how important the North Bank is to lifting the team . Former managers have said that a packed North Bank is a goal start for the team To shut it and give it to away support was disgraceful . Seeing all the happy faces of young supporters seeing for the first time what it was like to stand in the North Bank was great to see .

Hearing and seeing that took me back nearly 60 years when I started on the NB.

I think it was more to do with our success up the leagues and having to give it to away fans. Whilst we are down here, we don't and shouldn't have to do that.

I'd rather have the whole of the north bank and give the south stand to an away following. Just like Griffin Park.

Leave our South upper alone

You can keep the upper, give the lower to the away fans. If only it were that simple 🤣
This would be my favoured place - worst view in the ground but I know there's access issues at the minute. Especially with home fans in the upper tier. But ideally, I'd stick them there rather than the NW corner.
