Full Time Football Results

Benji91

American Idol
So im watching Soccer Saturday today, seeing all the scores roll in and it got me thinking, How do all the results get sent and publshed so quickly.

Not so much football league, but when the Nags Head 2 Dog and duck 1 in the midgetthrowers.com northern premier league comes in as a full time result at 4:52.

I appreciate i need to get out more, but who sends these reulsts in?

I am going to take a wild guess at the Sky correspondant (or which ever score centre you were watching) who has ben sent to hell hole the game is taking place at, thats how many correspondants and money they have

If it's like here in Spain, each match has a nominated delegate to offer latest scores and results to an centralised press outlet which then offers the information to subscribers like BBC and SKY; that's why their scrolling banners are exactly the same. Scriv will probably know more.

That's pretty much how it is. Yes, Sky and the BBC will have their own reporters at the major games - they will be the ones that you see or hear giving an update during the Saturday afternoon programme from the ground.

The results you see scrolling across the bottom of the screen are provided to the broadcasters by the Press Association. The content is exactly the same whether you watch it on BBC or Sky, the difference is only in the way the two channels present the information. The Press Association will have a nominated reporter at all of these games (and in the case of the non-leagues it will most likely be the reporter covering the game for the local newspaper) who will send in the goals to the PA headquarters as they happen, the PA then distribute that information straight to the broadcasters.

And good to see that there was a designated BBC correspondent was at Portman Road for the most important game today...

... who told the presenter in the studio, Jake Humphrey, that he would enjoy the score, being a Norwich fan!!

But did you notice the best comment of the day on BBC's Score which came from Adam Parsons, respected sports journalist at the BBC who often appears on national news bulletins, reporting from Layer Road he said that the Colchester bird mascot kicking a ball at a shed in the middle of the pitch at half time was the most entertaining thing he'd seen all afternoon!!

:hilarious:

I'd expect its how most media outlets obtain their news, through a news wire(s) that the broadcaster pays a subscription fee to and they send reporters to every game in the country.

on a simliar note, the guy doing reports on BBC essex said the biggest cheer at Layer Road was when they announced the Ipswich half time score. Good old farmers were rooting for us yesterday

Actually, it's unlikely that the PA will have a representatitve at the most obscure matches.

More likely is that a Club Official, by league rules, is responsible for phoning in half-time and full-time scores along with the scorers.

That's certainly how it works for reserve fixtures at our level and I'm pretty sure its how it works at the lower end of non-league.

Certainly for matches from Premier League down to National Conference level all have PA representatives at games. These are normally ex-Pro's who live local to that particular team.

For instances Paul Clark does Southend at Roots Hall, Danny Greaves does Col Ewe at Layer Road and Ian Benjamin does Northampton Town at the Sixfields Stadium.

Basically they spend the whole game on the phone commentating on the match with things like Maher free-kick 22-yards, direct, shot goes wide after deflection off Karl Duguid corner for Southend right hand side or Southend in possesion cross from left from Gower, header 7-yards Eastwood wide into keepers hands. Then at the other end of the phone is an operative who selects a series of drop down menus to produce the sort of stuff you see on BBC online text commentary.

The things like goal information are feed out on a wire service that Sky and other subscribers capture and then pump out in their particular format.
