The Blues pre-season plans will have to be altered after an announcement by FIFA that only six substitutes may be used in a summer warm-up games.
England boss Sven Goran Eriksson was met with wide spread criticism with his 'over use' of substitutes in many of his side's friendly matches. Acting on this, FIFA have now introduced a new rule that limits coaches to just six changes during a course of a game.
At first it was believed this rule change would only be in operation at international level, however a communication to all clubs from the Football Association has reminded them that this rule also applies at domestic level.
In previous years the Club has fielded two different sides using up to 22 players in many of the early 'low key' games. However FIFA's decision looks to have put pay to any plans to continue with that tried and tested formula.
