yes and we won promotion !!

Friday night football is a good thing, once in a while, but the novelty is wearing off a bit, especially with 8 in one season. Keep it to saturday afternoons. Thats what my weekends are built.

I dont mind a few Friday night games, as I know a few more of my mates will come to Hall as they play football on a Saturday. Also people who work on Saturdays or do other stuff and come down to the Hall on Friday night.

I was weaned on Friday night football in the 60's, 70's and early 80's. In those days you could count the number of Saturday games on one hand. And bloody awkward they were too if you worked on a Saturday.
Southend Utd and Friday night games were synonymous for decades. Saturday afternoons at home are a relatively recent phenomenon re-imposed on us, it should be noted, by good old Uncle Vic in his usual Stalinist style.
Bring back Friday nights, I say. The home of Southend football.

well i would say that on a saturday i feel "lost" if southend aren't playing. My weekends are built around football, well southend anyway laughing out loud but you have the morning and evening on a saturday for football. you can start in the morning in the pubs, and if we win, usually carry on til early hours of sunday

Ah, those were the days! I loved the atmosphere of it, we were playing under floodlights for longer than other teams. But I imagine that the majority of the fans who go now are too young to remember it, and I can't see the club going back (or being allowed to go back) to Friday nights on anything but an occasional basis.

Sadly, I concur.

Incorrect.

The club were at the mercy of the Pools companies. The club got fined if they switched their fixture from the Saturday and so did not appear on the Pools coupon.

Also, as we moved up the leagues, travelling support was greater and clubs less willing to switch. Tranmere were the only ones and that's because they tried to play on Friday nights too.

FBM's right. Both clubs need to be in agreement to a Friday night fixture for it to happen and more clubs in the lower leagues are willing to avoid losing support to the richer clubs, but playing their fixtures early.
