Freeview

No Idea, but I live in a block, and some of my mates can get freeview with no problems, others can't get it at all. My suggestion would be to get a box, if you haven't already, and if it doesn't work, get a refund.

I live in benfleet and Dixons/Argos etc all said on checking I couldn't get it.
Girlfriends uncle borrowed me his and we get it fine. Sometimes the digital picture pixelates for a second, but in general its always excellent, we do have an aerial booster though which i'd reccomend anyway.

A lot of shops check your postcode and if it doesn't say you can get it they won't allow you to buy it because they won't give you a refund.
I have checked this with consumer groups and you can only get a refund if the product doesn't do what you expect, if the shop says it won't work it's reasonable to assume you can't claim its faulty or not as expected.

I'd borrow one first.

Or, storm up to the manager and say that under the Sale of Goods Act 1979, you are entitled to a refund.

Yes, but the Consumer Act which in some ways superseeds the sale of goods act clearly states that you are entitled to a no quibble money back within 7 days if the product is not as expected or to your expectations, and obviously if its broke etc.
The shop here will argue that you will be buying a product that may not recieve digital communication in your area, therfore you knowingly are buying a product that might not work and therfore cannot get a refund?
You will get your money back but it's be a lot of wrangling and sweating.
You could give them a false postcode i guess and then take it back saying it pixelates etc which would be a lot less arguing.

Agreed, as is ITV1.

I was flicking through the channels last night and thought my Sky box was on the blink. It kept saying that it was on ITV1 but the channel it was showing had to be a crappy freeview channel as terresterial television could surely not have sunk to such depths.

It made QVC look professionally done.

Not supposed to be able to get freeview in Wickford but with a signal booster it works ok. Some channels don't work well and others are fine. It'll get better in time......

and better to get a lcd than a plasma.make sure if you get an lcd you get a power surge protector
1) It is the digital tv service from the BBC via your normal aerial on the roof,(although technically speaking you should upgrade the aerial to one designed for Digital transmissions.)

2) Especially if you are a Green Shrimper as a Plasma use 3 times the amount of leccy a CRT(Normal TV) does inch per inch. Also make sure you buy a true HD compatible to ensure it is future proof.
