Freddy Eastwood

benny the blue

Youth Team
Just stumbled across this on the BBC premiership forum. A couple of people think Freddy is off to Newcastle for a fee that could approach around £4 mill with add ons and England caps etc. I personally think that its the biggest load of tripe I've come across for a while. But, Eastwood rumours have been very quiet, could there be something in this?

I cannot see the Geordies being happy with the club spending that out on an unproven striker to replace Owen and Shearer.

Considering they let Chopra go for £500,00 too.

Actually, where on earth are Cardiff getting all this money from?!

They are taking loans out secured on their existing players! Very dodgy business similar to what caused so many problems at Leeds I believe.

I think they'll be even less happy at starting the season with just the donkey Ameobi up front.

Would Roeder know Freddy from West Ham? Didn't Roeder work with the Youth Team under Harry Redknapp?

I think its all nonsense, but then we are talking about probably the least-predictable and least-rational club in English football. They did shell out £3m on Lua-Lua afterall. If they'll spend that on him they'll spend it on anyone.

Freddy just claimed the number 10 shirt and then posed for the new kit.

If he had any intention of leaving before the season he wouldnt have done either.

He is going nowhere for the time being.

To be fair, Lua-Lua is a decent player and has proved himself in the Premiership and to a certain extent, Internationally with Doctor Congo...

To be less fair, he's ex-Col U and therefore useless in my eyes.

I'd say he was a hell of a lot less proven than Eastwood is at this point when they bought him.

Ha! Ha!

Yep, fair point about it at the time - didnt think of that. Werent ColU 4th Division scum when Newcie brought him?

They would have been in the third division at the time, but Lua Lua didn't play every game. He was often on the bench for them, from what I recall.

Yep it was Roeder that released Freddy so I doubt there's any legs in this one.

Cardiff fans should indeed be very worried, it just won't work. And Risdale will jump ship when it goes pear shaped.

That's shocking. I can't even believe they can get away with doing that and still pass an audit. How can you secure a loan on an asset (or assets) that could, in theory, reduce in fair value by a quarter, half or all of it's value with one (or several) bad tackles in the next match?? The risk involved is preposterous and I'm sure that any bank making such a loan will charge a large premium on it because of the high risk. Why not cut to the chase and make pre-arrangements with the bank to secure a loan based on the future acquisition of a player? Then every player you get comes on a free as long as he generates as much revenue as the amount he costs. Oh, hang on, we all know that there are only a handful of profitable football clubs around....

What's more, the club can then secure a loan on the new players until you have a squad that is completely reliant on maintaining or increasing its value to allow the squad to continue to make debt repayments. In other words, one bad season (Leeds only needed to miss out on the Champs League) and suddenly you have to sell one or more of your star players with no funds to bring in a replacement.

How can they get away with doing this?! The only ones that are going to lose out are the fans. The players will move on and the board will move on but the fans may well be left with a penniless club or no club at all.

Playing devil's advocate for a moment, how is that any different to securing a loan against a property which may fall/burn down, blow-up, get struck by a falling tree etc., is subject to wear and tear and may reduce in value? After all, players are insured.

Cardiff got £30 million in debts - yet they are fighting with us for Robinson! but we would bit £300'000 for him but Cardiff would get money on loans from their banks and bid £500k to pip us to Robinson signing

Col Ewe, as ever, were indeed scum, but only scum in the third teir of English football at the time.

Newcastle seemingly bought Lua-Lua on the basis of a fantastic performance away to QPR in the League Cup wahich I was (un?)fortunate enough to witness.

He almost single handedly destroyed QPR, scoring a hat-trick in a 4-1 win for the Scum. Shepherd's Bush Shrimper and myself had gone in the hope of seeing Col Ewe get stuffed and were disappointed to say the least.
