Freddy Eastwood v Billy Sharp

choggy

Coach
Don't know how to post a poll on this mb.

Noticed that Billy Sharp is again top of the league 1 goalscoring charts. So, simple question, who's better?

Similar kind of players, they shared the league 1 golden boot last season. We went up and Fred's scoring record in the Championship has been patchy although he scored goals for fun in the cups against lower league opposition.

Billy Sharp has been putting league 1 defences to the sword again and is a major factor in Scunny being top of the league.

They're not in the least bit similar. Other than the number of goals that they score, they're completely different players. Sharp is a finisher. He gets in the box and puts things away. Eastwood creates the majority of his chances for himself. Billy Sharp can't do that and I don't think he'd score as many goals in this team as Eastwood has done.

Bit unfair on Fred...I think he gets most of his goals out of the box because of a lack of service up front. That said, Scunny also have Keogh up front who scores goals so would imagine that Sharp gets more space than Fred.

Didn't Andy Keogh move on in the transfer window? I seem to remember someone on here saying that Scunny fans thought Keogh was a better more "rounded" player.

Unquestionably Eastwood.

100%

I know we're biased, but freddy is a fantastically talented footballer who, although has heen awol most of the season, can creat chances out of absolutely nothing.

Sharp is a good goal scorer, but has he actually ever scored outside the 6 yard box?! He's a good goal poacher, preys on mistakes and poor defending, but he's never going to score wonder goals like freddy is capable of. i doubt he would be as prolific in the championship, yet as said above he would be a solid signing for a championship team - yet nto a player with flare like freddy.

Remember, on his day, freddy is undoubtably one of the best strikers in the division. Imagion how many goals he would have scored if he was with Brum or West brom, where he would be plaing with players who could give him great service, and he would have the confidence in being with a top team etc

P.S. In referance to Keogh, I have also heard that he is the one out of the tow that could play higher. Again, he has skill level(even though he is nowhere near prolific) to play in a better league, where as sharp doesn't have the allround attributes.

Just checked... Keogh moved to Wolves for £600K. Oh, to have that sitting around in our vault!

Personally, I'd say the ability to be "in the right place at the right time" is as much of a talent as going past 4 defenders/scoring from 20 yards. The two great examples of this skill that spring to mind are Ian Rush, and his protege, Robbie Fowler

Frow what I hear, Freddy is more compariable to Keough who moved on to I think it was wolves in the transfer window. Sharpe is just a finisher and Iv seen a few videos of his goals and hes more the van nistleroy penalty box/6 yard box finisher.

Fred and Keough can make goals for themselves, Freddy though is also a decent finisher and has brilliant technique which seperates him from sharpe.

Of course sharpe would be a good player in the championship though!

too right.

Freddy has been an amazing player, but the problem with him can be he is too one dimensional. If the opposition crowd him out of the 18-22 yard distance he doesnt seem to have any other tricks.

Id rather a striker who just scores goals, whether they are from 10 yards or off his shin.

Seeing some of Freddys strikes over the past 3 years have been immense but I personally think Sharp shades it, however, lets see how he does in the CCC next year.

Now if we could have both that wouldnt be a bad compromise :)
