Forgotten MOT....

lee_sufc

Coach
For the last couple of months I've been thinking, I must get my MOT booked in soon as it must be due around July August time (i was convinced it was due around this time).

So, I booked my test in for Monday and thought I better pull out my last certificate - then realising my MOT had expired a couple of months back.

Is this going to be a problem? Why don't the DVLA remind you about MOT like they do about Tax etc?

It is currently being computerised so they will have a record in future.

Online tax renewals are a doddle if you have one of the new MOT's

So for now I should be ok if I get the MOT done Monday? I was wondering if the garage would look at the current certificate seeing it expired a while back and get funny?!?

I have done that a few times mate and never had any problems. I have only missed it by a few days in fairness but I have never even so much as been ask for my certificate.

you don't have to give over the current (or in this case not so current)certificate. you only give it over if you still 2 weeks left on it so the new certificate can be post dated.

No you don't have to bring your current, expired MOT with you. I had the same problem a couple of weeks back and was also as worried as yourself.

Just say you couldn't find it, they wont mind. Your only problem is driving around at the moment as your car is currently uninsured and therefore if old bill pull you over there is a slight chance they can take the car away from you and in more extreme circumstances crush it!
