Post-Match Thread and Ratings Forest Green 2-2 Southend United..We win on Penalites 4-2

No not at all. I do find it sad though, that so many are motivated by greed.

Do we know it’s greed though? As someone mentioned above, this move - his wages, signing on fee, bonuses - may have ensured his family are set for life. I’m not suggesting they/he are rich, but it’ll almost certainly secure their future, property wise, kids education, etc.

It’s a fine line between greed and doing what’s right for you/your family.

It has taken me a while to digest Wednesday night.

I was at Roots Hall Live for the first time, and what an excellent event it was. Really well organised, and a brilliant atmosphere.

And then onto the performance. I thought it was excellent, and tactically spot on. People talking about FGR going long - I feel like that was in part down to the way that we played, and the press that we put on them. The commentators kept saying how strong and controlled they usually are playing through the middle, but we didn't allow them to show much evidence of that.

I think FGR had a spell after their equaliser, for perhaps 10-15 minutes, where they gained a foothold, but other than that, I felt that we were always on top or, at the very least, in control. Nick Hayes didn't have a save to make outside of the two headed goals that FGR scored, which both came from unmarked headers - probably the only negative.

Huge props to Ben Goodliffe, who was generally imperious at the back and bagged himself a goal and an assist, and to Joe Gubbins, who hasn't had a particularly good season but acquited himself well when he came on and had the balls to take an excellent penalty.

I won't give individual ratings, as they're all heroes to me.

As I've said to others, I am dying to get out of this division, and hope we do it next weekend.

But if we don't, these past few weeks will live long in the memory, and are all the evidence I need that this club is back, and that success is near, no matter what division we're in next season.

There are very few on here who would in effect turn down a six figure amount to move to the Cotswolds. And of the few who would, I expect they are already in a comfortable financial position to be able to do so. Remember Cardwell is someone who came from part-time football and has maybe five years left of his pro career. He left us for a club that actually finished above us so it wasn’t a lack of ambition.

Cardwell never agitated for a move and his effort never dipped. He played admirably through some of the toughest times for us. He earnt that security and the respect of us fans.

So rather than denigrate Cardwell for a decision 99% of fans would make in his position let’s instead celebrate Bridge’s loyalty (we can gloss over the fact that before his heroics Wednesday night a number of his once adoring fans were ready to move on from him in the summer).
I'm not denigrating Harry, I don't blame him at all. I'm denigrating Forest Green for taking our top scorer and then not playing him - so Vince or Cotterill or whoever had the idea.

I'm an old codger, but I can safely say that I've just had the best two consecutive days of my football life (if Carlsberg could do midweeks etc). Following Wednesday night's euphoria, I managed to shake off the hangover and take my place in the dug out to witness these starlets clinch a league and cup double (their first in men's football). Very tired today.

Cards chose to set himself and his family up for life, rather than a steady living for 5 years, adulation of some people who had never heard of him 2 years before and a 30 years slog until he gets a state pension.

I think it was Klopp who said that football is the most important of the unimportant things in life. Cards chose the important things.
Whilst it will have been a boost to him and his family, there is no-one at this level that will be set for life. Don't blame him for going for the money, but not all moves work out. Happens everywhere - in and out of football.
