Football League clubs ready to reject Greg Dyke's "B League" plan

Evening Echo

The News
FOOTBALL League clubs are expected to give Greg Dyke’s controversial “B league” proposals the thumbs down at their summer meeting in Portugal tomorow.

Worth investigating that idea of B team in the JPT, it's not the greatest cup the 'less than worthless' cup and could possibily add something to it. Not saying i'm for it but worth investigating, certainly a better idea than B teams in the league. How about B teams in the Scottish league?!

Why? The intended purpose of this idea is to provide English youngsters with exposure to first-team football that they can learn from. What could they possible learn from a competition that not even League Two clubs take seriously?

Forget all this pandering to Premier League clubs. The only and fairest way to bring more English players through into the top flight, is obviously to limit the foreigners in each starting eleven.

We have a winner. Totally agree.
We had that a few years ago, didnt make an atom of difference to the England team. World class players are born, they will get into a prem side whoever is playing for them, if they are not good enough to get a start in a Prem side, then they are not good enough to play for England.

17 & 18yr olds with talent that can be nurtured are pushed out as Prem clubs can buy a proven Johnny Foreigner for a few million rather than give an English kid a chance. How this youngster would get any experience by playing a non-league club with hoofers and cloggers is beyond me.

if you want more English players in the prem and a better England squad then we need to train our home talent better!

I take your point, and i am in agreement with most of what you are saying. Iam wondering though does any other country put restrictions on how many oversees players you may have.

i read that England only has 32% homegrown players in top league - compared to 45% Italy, 50% Germany, 59% Spain

Yes, I saw figures like that being put around.

The other interesting thing is not only how many home grown players they have playing in their top league but how many of their players play in the other top leagues compared to English players. For instance how many Spanish players are there playing for top teams in England? I would suggest probably more than we have playing in Germany, Italy, Spain and France put together. So not only do they have a pool of high quality players playing at home but a depth of quality players experienced at playing at the top level elsewhere and thus having experienced different styles and manners of play.

Thats what England need , more players playing in other countries, most notably, Spain, Germany ,Italy .France and Holland. and a few young talent in Belgium and the Nordic countries.

Sorry i mentioned the young talent in Nordic countries and Belgium because they have a better chance of playing regular first team football in those countries. And of a higher class than 1st or 2nd division in England, even the Hyundai Australian football league here is of a higher standard than both those divisions in England.Man Cty got the right idea they just bought out Melbourne Heart here ,renamed in Melbourne City, and im betting they lease some of their young talent to the team here too eventually.

The interview I saw/heard with Greg Dyke yesterday had him giving figures for non English players in the top two divisions - true enough; then he went on to state the bottom two divisions need to help with the problem by allowing his proposal to go ahead; as a cure to getting more English players developed for the top few clubs.
And then blaming those lower clubs/businesses for not "buying" into his vision.
The first comparison I thought was "turkeys voting for christmas", or a supermarket telling shoppers to buy elsewhere as cheaper/better/ethical etc.
The FA have, through Mr Dyke, showed that they do not care for, or value, the Football League.
