Good solid team performance. Did what we had to to get our play off assured. Keeps a positive run of results going. Playing well and getting results just at the right time. 1 defeat in 8 is decent at this stage.

Sorry but that was rubbish!! They were by far the better team, fitter, faster and wanted it more than we did imho. 31 mins before our 1st shot on target says it all really, then 2nd half when we usually wake up and play football we just carried on hoofing it. Very disappointing

Totally agree. What on earth was the manager thinking of by bringing on Evans in the 89th minute. We were already in the play-offs so why didn't we throw caution to the wind and give it a bloody good go but of course we failed to.Certain players are just not good enough and when you see that Matt cost £300k how much is the likes of Barry Corr worth who they felt comfy enough to take off before the final whistle.

But then their manager said that Bentley was the man of the match and that sums up the game.
Having listened to it we seemed to dominate the first 35 and then they scored against the run to a soft FK
Second half they sounded good but we should of had a pen

So conclusion, Alexander with your budget and being able to sign 300k strikers... You're a prick

It seemes that we bossed the first half with the wind behind us . But they seemed to have the better of the second .Blow for Blow if these two teams were prize fighters then the draw would have been the outcome . Played this side twice now and if we get them in the playoffs then they might keep a tighter hold on BBBC scored 3 against them now .:Worthy:

I think you kind of pointed out that Fleetwood can not handle Corr......well done.....

Home to North Wales from Fleetwood and pleased to be in the play offs. We seemed to have a lot of possession and their goal from a free kick was against the run of play. 2 evenly matched teams that cancelled each other out. Corr had a great chance for the winner but shot tamely.
My ratings
17 Bentley 8 Another good game, couple of good tip overs the bar but could have done better with the free kick that eluded all
02 White 7 Steady game
03 Coker 7 Steady and should have got a penalty after being bundled off the ball
12 Atkinson 9 MOM Worked his socks off, set up some good moves
32 Egan Booked 8 Classy player and part of a solid pairing with Sokolik
35 Sokolik 8 Same as Egan
15 Murphy (Straker - 62' ) 7 Worked hard but lost the ball in good positions and tired
18 Leonard Booked 7 Worked hard throughout
10 Corr (Eastwood - 90' ) 8 Did well with his goal and good hold up play to bring others into the game but missed a winner with a tame shot in 2nd half when he should have blasted it home in penalty box. Also took an elbow in the penalty area unseen by poor referee

08 Timlin 7 Worked hard but not as effective as at Rochdale
14 Hurst
Substitutes
07 Eastwood 7 Only on for a few minutes
11 Straker 7 Made some good runs and looked a threat but no final killer pass

Both teams played a passing game on a brilliant looking pitch prepared by the groundsman of the league this season.

Seeking words of wisdom having bumped into the squad at Euston - I don't trouble Freddy but had a chat with Timlin who said the pressure was off and he expected an open game and that they were up for securing finishing on the home leg. He also mentioned the momentum of a strong finish and how that worked for Crewe when they went up at our expense. When they get in the first class carriages I keep on walking.

A Weekend in Blackpool? - 10 mins will do. A stubby pier where you can play bottle top bingo(?)appeal to anyone? All the locals look like extras from Phoenix Nights and 'run down' is the aura. Bleakpool is what I have in my mind but maybe I'm just imagining a South African pronouncing it. Some of it has a bit of charm - Very shabby chic, but who doesn't love bracing sea air mixed with the smell of fried food?

On the rammed bus to Fleetwood I am the youngest person by a good 40 years - and I'm 42! The route away from Blackpool is very residential and nicer, like the sea facing houses in Westcliff. Further along has a Canvey vibe (it is shaped like a peninsula), then right by the ground there are typical northern terrace houses.

Highbury - home / away terraces behind each goal. One small stand with seating taking up half of one side of the pitch with the other half being a bungalow that is used as a social club. Bizarrely behind this stand is the old stand that it replaced - they built the new stand in front of it. It's like a ghost stand - the spirit if matches past. I like those quirks. The main stand that I am in that has a pleasingly curved roof and a hospitality balcony above the standard seats - well designed. An 'Ultras De Cod' flag catches my eye then is trumped by 'Cod Army Papua New Guinea' - really?!

A drums n whistles samba band provides a soundtrack as the cod mascot that looks like a William Burroughs creation swaggers around.

Funny first half an hour or so where pretty much nothing happened, not boring just no stand out incidents. We had the best of the play, it was barely in our half at all. We were pressurising and pushing and forcing corners and...nothing, no clear chances. Sokolik was the stand out - strong in the tackle, always calm, passing out from defence with confidence. The one moment in the first half an hour where something special could happen fell to him and he thought about a volley, then was for the first time hesitant, and nothing came of it. Their very 1st chance was on 37 minutes from a disputed free kick that then swung right across the 6 yard box with no one getting a touch and somehow it was in. The Captain Pugwash theme is played when they score, which despite the circumstances amuses me and then the cod mascot does a dance on the big screen. They sing for 3 minutes then finally we make use of a corner and it lands right on Corr's head and he lets what come naturally to him happen and it's one each. We needed that - being a confidence team it's important to bounce straight back.

They came out like lightening in the second half - presumably the manager has reminded them they can still get automatic promotion. Bentley makes 3 great saves and stays solid when others are wobbling. The ref isn't helping - it's like he is in a fire sale - everything must go, throw ins, free kicks all to them - the only thing he gives us are cards. A penalty shout as Coker went down in the box he is tempted by but looks to the Lino and we get nothing from that either. Most disappointing thing about that for me is Corr's reaction - trying to snap someone in two on his next tackle - no idea how tempting the ref's bias will help.

Timlin and Hurst both endure a ball to face a minute apart - the type that echoes around the ground and makes the spectators wince. Timlin and Atkinson in particular were battling hard in the early period of the second half but at that point Fleetwood were definitely on top and creating chances. Murphy was starting to let his inexperience show and it was a good move to replace him with Straker. This instantly livened up the team, energy levels picked up and the balance swung back our way.
Straker made his mark just on the outside of the box losing two players with a deceptive step back and setting up a chance for Corr that he really should have converted. Corr also missed a header from a free kick tailor made for him, but made amends a minute later by unselfishly and expertly set up Lenny when he could have kept the chance for himself. The end to end nature of the second half made for good viewing and I'd say we ended up on top in the closing stages so confidence wise that and sharing the spoils with the team who are third will do the confidence no harm.

Down to 7th but a play off spot is secure but who and when is still up in the air.

Fleetwood, what I saw is a dump with trams and either old people or smack heads; very few of whom go to the football; attendance just over 3k and about 5-600 Blues for a very important last home game????WTF!!!!!
Friendly stewards, easy parking, sunny but windy day; big, flat well watered, great condition pitch and a deserved groundsman of the season award before the game.
Main stand had fair seats and reasonable facilities underneath; just the other side needs lots to make it a real ground as ends are ok for this league and crowds.
Standard PB team selection but I noticed PB brought 4/5 extras including Laird, Smith and Payne who didn't make the bench; is he keeping everyone involved or are there injury worries?

1st half and we have the wind behind us so PB is telling Dan to throw out as any strong kicks go straight to their keeper; it takes a while but Dan understands this. Even until the ref takes his moment of "glory" and assists for their soft free kick goal which goes through everyone aka the Scunny's 2nd goal; maybe this caused players not to get out of the way in 2nd half and take some hard hits. What is the Cod singing and clapping all about! Crap goal song.
We quickly get back into it from a corner, about our only good deadball work all game (terrible free kicks by Cokes and Hurts).
1 each, half time.
They come out on time, we come out late and we don't adapt to the wind, poor 20 minutes in which we fail to string any passes together and the middies drop further and further back leaving a huge gap to Murph up front as bazza also drops deep.
Then PB makes a change, Strakes comes on and goes for width and our team reverts to a proper shape and the play is with us.
Ref refuses a very strong pen claim after Cokes and Hurst have tricked and dinked some passes into the box.
BBBC is knackered but PB doesn't sub him; we have a great chance but BBBC WAS offside (again) at the start of the move.
They bring on (as announced) Big John Parkin; worried? he was useless and IMO they won't be giving him another year, but he does like a winge.
Fred is finally given 20 seconds plus the 3 mins added time.
Game over.

I initially thought a draw was a fair result but as I walked away I became more convinced that we could (or should) have taken all 3 points. The Cod Platoon were on top for 20 minutes of the 2nd half but otherwise a neutral observer would have said we were the home team that was higher up the league. Barry would have a hat-trick on another day, midfield were good, back four solid and Benters is a valuable asset.

My man of the match - Solly with Barry a very close second.

I too admired the dancing cod that was part of the goal celebrations. As much as I liked it, I hope I don't see it again! :winking:

Interesting sign on the road in. Just under the "Fleetwood" board is a sign saying "Breastfeeding always welcome here". I cod you not.
