Flahavan

gazzacat42

First XI
With virtually everyone on here calling for Flavs to come straight back into the team.

He was always going to anyway with Bart being injured again.

What did his fans think of Flavs performance, rooted to the line all game and the only save he made he spilled.

It is obvious that we need a decent keeper, the clean sheets tell you this.

Don't think he had much of a chance with either goal yesterday, though was rooted to his line for the game and didn't look all that confident.

Might be a bit harsh to judge him on that performance alone, when he has had only a few days training and the defence in front of him looks porous to say the least!!

Dreamer! Short memory have you, he is one of the reasons that we are near the top! Tilson and his dodgy team selection lately must take some of the blame. Smith comes on every week and impresses yet can't get a start, yesterday he showed the captain how to get in the box and score, and now deserves a decent run in the team!

Come on, Wiggy, let's be objective here. Darryl was at his cement-boots worst yesterday. For Vale's first goal he simply HAD to come and claim the ball as it was in the air a long time from Husbands' cross but instead was rooted to his line. He also completely missed a fairly tame corner that would have had you screaming if it had been Bart.

For the record, I'm not a Darryl basher and over the last 12 months or so he's been a very important player for us but yesterday really did expose his weaknesses as a goalkeeper. While I agree that he may have been a bit rusty following his recent injury, very few people on here were willing to give Bart leeway for this reason so I don't see why this should be a valid excuse for Darryl either.

And I think yesterday also proves that our defensive worries aren't simply dependant on who is in goal, as has been suggested by many on here. Our defending as a unit has to improve if we are to stand any chance of promotion this season.

On the subject of Jay Smith, well, I agree with you here. He is by far our most gifted midfielder and should definitely start on Saturday. I think we have to trust Tilly on this one, though. Jay has suffered two serious injuries and it was only right that he should be nursed gradually back into first team action - and let's be fair, while Jay's cameos as a sub have reminded us of his immense talents, he has been anonymous in his two starts this season so far. Still, at a time when our flowing football of earlier this season has stuttered, now should be the right time to unleash him.

couldn't agree more - Jay to start against MK Dons?

here here

Tilson quoted we only started to play in the last 20mins

that be when the three subs came on

I say start em all vs MK Dons after all it is a cup tie

Indeed I believe Flahavan looked very shaky on Saturday, possible because he has had little training. Let's hope that next week he has the confidence to come off his line more like he was doing before he got injured.

Smith should start on Saturday.

It would be interesting to hear what everyone else thinks...Who is better bart or Flavs ?

just watching the BW highlights and the 1st goal is atrocious for all concerened. Darryl should have come but in the same respect we shouldnt be beaten at the far post with a ball that is floated in, we made is extremley easy for Constantine.

The first goal was more down to Edwards. I thought he had it covered all the way but for some inexplicable reason he failed to jump and put in a challenge. Time to bring back Prior.

Although Flavs cant really be faulted for either goal, he was very, very shaky on crosses, he didnt leave his line once, which led to a few close calls.

'Rooted' or 'Root' is an Australianism for sex.
Reminds me of when I told an Oz friend of mine what Southend's ground is called. He wondered what goes on there.

He's since seen pictures of the Blue Belles... and he thinks his initial thoughts have been confirmed.

I would disagree, i think a taller goal keeper would have either caught or punched the cross. Darryl could do neither due to his size

Hmmmm, my immediate reaction at the time (I was stiting just beyond the far post and was in line with Edwards) was that it was Edwards to deal with.  That was also the impression of the people sitting around me.

Perhaps Eagle thought Flavs was going to come for it hence his rather belated and half-hearted attempt at a challenge.  Similarly, Flavs probably thought Eagle had it under control (as did I).

Having since seen the goal on tv, it was in the air a hell of a long time and was not that far away from the goal.  I think I'll conclude that between them they messed up big time (and I wont even mention Barrett deciding not to try and hook the ball out from in front of the goal - he must have thought it was going wide).

Lack of communication then, something which Flahavan has been guilty of in the past ...

Let's just say Flavs gave me the screaming ab-dabs on several occassions on Saturday (not for the first time).

WARNING - sitting right behind Flav's goal while he attempts to deal with crosses is not good for your health

.

(By the way, for all you Flav's fans, I'm not a Darryl knocker, and indeed marginally prefer him over Bart, but that's not to say he doesn't have his weaknesses - hence why he's playing in League One.)
