Five In Midfield

derek duvall

First XI
When all suspensions have been served I think we should play 5 in midfield so that Maher, macca and Bailey can be squeezed into the side and it limits the amount of arguing over which of our strikers is the worst, because clark is surely a shoe-in for one up front. Being as most of our goals come from midfield I reckon it could work; feel free to shoot me down in flames.

it isn't the worst suggestion but i really don't think clark would get the support he needs up front. he really isn't the worlds best target man and so perhaps it's a logical formation away from home when we want to boss it and keep it tight... but at home i think it will limit our opportunities too much

I cant think of one succesful side that has played 5 in the middle consistantly.

Having played in midfield myself for a spell as part of a 5 man midfield I found it too cramped and unless you have goal scoring wingers can be a very hard system to get right.

Why anyone would deviate from 4-4-2 is beyond me really.

interesting idea considering the strength of our midfield. possibly worth a try but as already stated clarke might find this sort of system hard to play in.
