A lot of the gloom and doom on here is mis-placed. Realistically, this was always going to be a transitional season and hopes of a quick return to League 1 were fanciful. If Sturrock pulls that off with the barriers he's had put in place, he really will be an all-time legend. But I am very concerned about our fitness levels and I can't see any excuse for that. In each of the last three games we've fallen apart in the last half hour. When we equalised early in the second half against Morecambe the game was there for the taking, but we never mounted any concerted pressure. After Morecambe got their third we never had another attack worthy of the name. Morecambe must have been expecting us to blitz them but it never happened. Have we signed a bunch of players who just lack basic fitness or should we be doing more (or less) on the training ground?? Nobody has looked to have any energy during the closing stages of these games and that is something which Sturrock has to get right. Limited ability and the need to gel as a team I can accept, but it really is impossible to excuse players who aren't prepared to give everything for 90 minutes.

Whilst I kind of agree that this seems to have been a problem very recently - we managed an injury time equaliser after sustained pressure against Stockport, and then the extra-time win against Bristol City again showed what we're capable of. However, yes, in recent weeks fitness has looked an issue, but not for all the players. I think Anthony Grant has been a rock for this club - every one of our players should look at the effort and determination he puts in week in week out, and should try and emulate him.
