Graduated from Christ Church, Oxford, with a prize winning First in History (2021) and an MSt in Intellectual History (2022).

Reading for a DPhil in Intellectual History at Brasenose College, Oxford.

I have also worked in the football industry, on match analysis and player scouting for clubs in UK and Europe

A History PhD student who has helped write speeches for Tony Blair going into football analysis seems like a hell of a career pivot.

Would be interesting to see what other clubs he's worked for, I'm guessing this is his first full time role but maybe he's picked up some contacts along the way.

Best of luck to him! I'm sure he has relevant experience but a bit of an unusual career path thus far since doing History at Oxford. Usually people within these positions are from Data / Analytics backgrounds.

Not against it. We may be ahead of the curve and reap the benefit. If not we’re wiser for it. Let’s face it the recruitment over the last 5 years has been poor overall (albeit with some exceptions), so let’s see how this plays out over the next year then reassess. I know BoD explained the process works but I do see potential differences of opinion, challenging how compatible this data driven approach sits with football department (John Still & Kev Maher). Lot of voices and ultimately there must be a final decision maker.

Matt's a great guy and been to see a few games over the last 2 years, home and away. Really knows his stuff ..... knows absolutely everything about the Bundesliga too!!

Wither John Still....

Yes , I wonder what John Still and his team of scouts will make of it all. Hopefully they can all work together with the rest of the coaching staff and also JD. An awful lot of people employed in the recruitment of players for an NL club.

I expect John Still will send him a load of players to run analysis on, and the new guy will send John some players the numbers have surfaced to watch. It's not exactly an unusual setup. Many of the teams promoted from the division in recent years have had similar.
