Final League Position

Barmy Army

Director
We finished 17th! I for one am disgusted by that final position. We are a much better team than 17th position represents. Sod finishing above Orient, this still reads as a **** poor season in terms of final league position.

Next season, next season....</span>

I&#39;d have taken it at Christmas as well, but we know we should be better than 17th, just a shame that we seemed to take our foot off the gas when we achieved safety.

you are indeed correct. I would like to see a league table from the second half of the season alone, that would give us a better indication of where we belong, but 17th isn&#39;t so bad compared to us being in 23rd for a long time. if we can keep out best players, and maybe bring in a couple of good ones, we should do well next year. i&#39;ve seen a fair few div 2 games this season, including stockport vs barnsley today, and the standard of these teams is pretty poor, stockport survived and they are a terrible team, notts county have been dire all season, wycombe are cr*p and rushden have lost all their good players. all the teams from the play-offs down we are capable of finishing above...so there&#39;s plenty to be confident about for next season.
now, bring on euro 2004&#33;

Before the start of the season when Wignall was getting rid of lots of the squad and bringing new players in I said I would be happy with anything higher than 16th which was last seasons position. We are two places below where I would have been happy with.
But and its a massive but.............. we have the nucleus of a team that seems to be gelling well and capable of playing good attractive football.
We have Mr Southend as our new manager with a two year contract.
We have beaten Col Ewe in the first competitive match in 14 years.
We beat QPR who are now a first division team 4-0
We have been on Sky against Canvey
We have had the best weekend away to Cardiff for a National Cup final.
We have recently heard that the future of our new ground has taken a turn for the better.

This makes this season all in all a success and probably one of the most enjoyable in my life as a Shrimper.
