Fifa 06 is improved so much this season. The manager mode is quailty, you can watch the game, and interveen, or just play the game, If you hear carefully one of the chants is "ESSEX, ESSEX, ESSEX" , but obvisouly seeing the spanish shrimpers flag and one team in essex flag made me smile,

Freddy and Goat look sought correct, why are half the team bald, and smithy and gray had a micheal jackson opperation. If smithy's reading this, what u think of your apperance on the game?

Dissapointed Luke Guttridge isn't on there and Kightly is? Stuart williams is in squad aswell, dispite being realesed.

Game play is much harder, but quailty; Got it for ps2, but will exchanged for xbox 360 version when that all comes out.

My aim in the first season is to gain promotion and win the LDV, maybe get to the 3rd round of f.a cup

there is conspiricy in the game, which is true to life.....

......got knocked out by swansea in carling cup 3-2. Lee Trundle Penalty in the 91st min.

Sorry mate but FIFA is the mugs football game of choice.

Get yourself pro evolution 5 when it is released later this month.

I have got FIFA 2006 as well and the attention to detail is amazing.

If you look carefully you can spot W block is full of adolescents wearing cheap sportswear from JJB sports.

I could swear I also saw that bloke who soiled himself at a reserve match a few seasons ago sitting in the east greens....

Why is PES so much better?
Its hard to put your finger on it, but PES is as close to real football as you will get.

The gameplay is so realistic that no 2 matches are the same - and its rare to get 2 goals the same, you can score from an infinite number of ways.

Most importantly, you feel like YOU are in control of what is going on, not scripted events and animations. There are some nice moves in PES, but they fit naturally into the game and become part of your attacking armour - unlike FIFA where you used to do 20 'rainbow' flicks up the pitch and then hammer in a volley from 30 yards.

The scores in PES are also as realistic as real football. I've played FIFA games where the score is 6-6 or 10-1 - in PES, there are plenty of scrappy 0-0's, exciting 3-2's and fighting 1-0 away wins.

The only advantage FIFA has is a proper license for the players and kits (though, like the skin colours of the blues, they normally f%&k anything outside the Prem up). In PES, there are the top teams from England, Spain, Italy, Holland, Germany, France and some other European/South American countries.

Whilst many teams dont have licenses, the player likenesses are excellent and the ingame editor in this years version especially is amazing - allowing you to recreate almost perfect versions of all teams kits (including sponsors, badges and name/number fonts) or download what someone has spent days creating and load it into the game.

The other downside of PES is a lack of a proper 'season'. You can play in a Master League - which is basically 2 divisions (1 of 16 teams and a smaller 8 team 2nd division) for each country. You can buy/sell players, train etc and there is a cup during the league season as well as Champs League and UEFA cups to play. You have to stick with one team once chosen, but it is a excellent mode - though people dont rate it v FIFA's full English Prem/League mode.

Personally, PES5 (or rather its Jap cousin WE9) is the best GAME i have ever played, let alone football game. I have been playing games 20 years on many formats and this is head and shoulders the most exciting, frustrating, addictive game I have ever played!

GET IT NOW!...

Its legal to chip your PS2's in Oz now, so get it done and download a copy today*

* I mean import it from Japan of course!

Cheers matey, great post.
I was always aware of its superiority and felt that FIFA was slightly off the mark. I'm not bothered by real player names etc as long as game play is top notch.

I played Pro Evo 5 the other day and was a bit dissapointed. They have definately made it more realistic but at the same time hav spoilt it a bit:
* You only have to touch a player and it is a freekick which gets annoying!!
* The player movement isn't as nice - they seem to be very slow when running with the ball

Again, it is VERY realistic but could do with being a bit easier. In my opinion, if a regular FIFA player picked this up to give Pro Evo a go they will find it too hard.

I'm starting to warm to Fifa '06 now after a couple of games. Is it just me or is there also a Darryl Flahavan chant too?

Quote[/b] (pboreham @ Oct. 07 2005,06:58)]eloquent post bigging up PES and damning FIFA into the ground
I couldn't have put it better myself.

All of my mates used to play FIFA but once the first Pro Evo came along for PS2 I was finally able to make them see the light. As I posted the other week, I thought I'd give FIFA'06 a look the other week but was still dissapointed ultimately. It wouldn't have been so bad with the SUFC player likenesses if they could have been fixed in the editor but for some reason you can't edit appearances of players.

I think the other main thing that bugs me about FIFA is that although the players can look their real life counterpart all the players play the same way, regardless of their ability. In Pro Evo the players look AND act like their reali life counterparts - Michael Owen and SW-Phillips are short and nippy, Ronaldinho can ghost past defenders with tricks, Peter Crouch is a freak of nature but amazing in the air, Becks is good at crossing and freekicks, Vieira and Keane are dirty etc etc

I'm still amazed that FIFA sells so well, every year reviewers slate the game into the ground but I think a lot of retar....I mean hardcore FIFA fans still buy it on the strength that every team from Carlisle to Col U is on there. Plus FIFA have stronger advertising campaigns. Pro Evo are slowly aquiring more licenses though, this year they have got licenses for Chelsea, Arsenal, (John Terry and Thierry Henry are on board for the advertising) Celtic and Rangers on top of the entire Spanish, Italian and Dutch leagues. Oh, the other cool thing about Pro Evo this year is the intro video music is Club Foot by Kasabian!

Actually, I like both. PES is much more realistic and involving and I if I want to play a footie game for a couple of hours I'll play that. FIFA on the other hand is far better to just pick-up and play for a quick match, so if I feel like a short blast on a game I'll play that.

FIFA looks great but its all presentation. Plus it usually has a lot of annoying bugs, and is only short term entertainment.

PES is a more thorough game, you feel more in control of the players, its just feels a better game (hardly a conclusive argument

). The only problem is/was the licencing where the teams were accurately depicted but had made up names which you had to edit.

I still play PES4 nearly every night, that's how good it is. FIFA is too easy, and stupid things happen, I cant stand it.

So, basically, get PES5 (out on 21st). BTW, yesterday I pre-ordered it for £15 on PS2 from hmv.co.uk, but it is back at 30 as they ran out of that stock. Keep looking out on there though, as it may be reduced even more again soon.

i know what you mean, the other day me and my brother were playing a friendly match, Edgar Davids floated a freekick in to the box which hit my keepers legs and went for a corner.

At this point clive tydsley started screaming and edgar davids was celebrating after a goal had been awarded to spurs!!!!!!. its things like this that ruin the game.

And then there's the irritating scenario when you're players can't take the ball in their stride.... that really annoys me. As it does when a player dtops making his run when you select him and just stands there, even though you're holding the 'sprint' button down....

Fifa gets better every year, and this year its quality! I find it pretty difficult though!

Game play on pro evo is so much better though, was always a fifa man but the more i play pro evo the more i like it, looking forward to buying it this month!
