After reading the comedy thread, whats your fave modern day comedy.

This is a tough call as I really like 7-8 of those a lot...

For consistant laughs, Spaced and Peep Show rarely dropped in quality and as much as I love all of Partridge, series 2 of IAP left a bit of a sour taste...

Boosh is genius, Office and Extras are also excellent...

TittyBangBang has to get a mention for me, best original sketch show of past couple of years post Little Britain (1st series, it's gone downhill dramatically since Matt & Dave got all big-time).

It would be Spaced if they still made it, shame both JS & SP are too busy to ever get together for the much hoped for 3rd series!

Tricky one this.......

I saw Partridge series' 1 & 2 last week and forgot its genius...but then The Office is very fresh in my mind.

I'll go for Partridge as Gervais has clealy plagarised him in scenes, mannerisms, beliefs and ideas.

Crash, bang, Wallop - What a video.

For my mind its Alan Partridge - The espisode where he meets his biggest fan Jez is just a classic.

Like Little Britain but jokes get a bit samey. Also really enjoyed Ali G in a juvenile sort of way. Brass Eye and the Day Today were top viewing as well.

Of that lot, it's Spaced every time for me closely followed by The Office and League of Gentlemen. Obviously the first thing a comedy needs to be is funny but beyond that, I want to be moved and have my emotions tugged at - something all of those did better than any comedy in television history. Partridge, CYE and the entire output of Chris Morris may well be the funniest, most intelligent, well written comedies of recent years but none of them moved me.

As for the others; I love Peep Show (most underrated modern comedy) and Extras, Little Britain is OK but is wearing wafer thin 3 series down the line (much preferred The Fast Show for one joke characters in a sketch show setting) and Catherine Tate and The Mighty Boosh are just utter sh!t.

they are all terrible, anything by ricky gervais is terrible and little britain is dire. my mates are amazed that i can watch these shows and not break a smile.

for a recent comedy i have to go stateside and go with scrubs

I've voted Alan Partridge, but I'd rather plump for Scrubs or League of Gentlemen.

League of Gentlemen is so spectacularly nasty.

My only problem with it is that it's always on so late!
You are kidding....

I dont think I have laughed once at that....Such ****.

I happen to like it

No votes for The Green Green Grass then ? Jeez - they must have been desperate to agree to that one. Having said that Only Fools and Horses took a couple of series to really take off I suppose.

Brasseye is IMHO the best TV series ever produced, so that would be my number one. Its probably about a decade old but still more up to date than most current comedies.

I'd give honourable mentions to some of the ones already mentioned like Phoenix Nights and League of Gentleman. Things like the Office and Little Britain (first series only) were also classics of their time but I wonder whether they will age so well. Pleased to see the excellent Mighty Boosh get some mentions. Peep Show and Spaced were shows that I rarely saw but when I did I always thought I should see more often, same applies to Shameless - and I'm surprised no-one has mentioned that so far. Might have to purchase the DVDs.

Other honourable mentions:

Monkeydust
The Simpsons
South Park
The Smoking Room
People Like Us
Early Doors

This is extremely tough, to the point where I can't choose an outright favourite because a lot of these shows are classics for their own unique reasons.

My top five would probably consist of Brass Eye/The Day Today, Alan Partridge, The Office, Peep Show and Little Britain. However, I'd also like to nominate Green Wing and Teachers, which I don't think have been mentioned yet.

I'm in the same boat as Kris. So it has to be another list of honourable mentions:

Spaced
The Mighty Boosh
The Office
Phoenix Nights
I'm Alan Partridge
Scrubs
Curb Your Enthusiasm

re: Curb Your Enthusiasm - I'm a newcomer to the show but fell in love with it instantly. I want to show a friend the episode where Larry has a pubic hair stuck in his throat and he hires the real life nativity to come to his house (the showdown with 'Joseph' at the end of the episode kept me laughing for about a week). Can anyone tell me what season that episode was in?

I've just thought that I've seen no mention of undoubtably the best comedy of the last few years - Arrested Development.

The cast and the writing is absolutely second to none. Any show that has Henry Winkler as a Lawyer has got to be quality!

None of my 'top five' are on that list, but I'll plump for 'The Office' as I can identify with it
