Fancy a punt?

Plenty of bets to be had on Southend this year. Here's the pick of the bunch, with best price available and the bookies laying those prices. I've only listed fixed-odds firms, no spreads or excahnges.

To win the Championship - 200/1 (SportingOdds, SkyBet, totesport)

To be promoted - 66/1 (Stan James)

To be relegated - 2/1 (William Hill, BetDirect)

Top scorer in the Championship - Freddy Eastwood 40/1 (generally available)

Handicap betting - +36pts at 18/1 (Coral, totesport, BetFred)

To finish higher than Col Ewe - 8/11 (Ladbrokes, Bet365)

First manager to be sacked - 14/1 Steve Tilson (Bet365)

Bizaare price on Tilly to be sacked - not an earthly of that happening. 500/1 would be a more reasonable price.

Nigel Worthington will probably be first to go.

Anyone know the odds on Southend not to be relegated ??

Im going down the bookies in the next few days

One Team In Essex
SOUTHEND UNITED FC

No-one as yet.

You could lay us at 2.8 for relegation on Betfair though.

Laying us for relegation would be the exact opposite of betting against us.

You could go on betfair and take a bet on us to be relegated. If we stay safe, you get the other punter's money.

+36 in the handicaps, that can't be right? +36 is a massive amount.

I know the Championship isn't anywhere as open as League one (+36 was probably the difference between promotion and relegation!), but that is still basically offering 18-1 that we'll get 60 odd points this season.

I reckon last time out we got 62, 52, 59, 62, 59 and then 42 points and finished 22, 44, 31, 20, 24 and 56 points behind the champions. 18-1 to replicate next season what did in 4 out of our 6 previous seasons in that division sounds pretty tempting.

Admittedly, the division has probably got harder since then, the last 6 champions have amassed 106, 94, 94, 98, 99 and 102 points. But with a +36 handicap we'd have needed 71, 59, 59, 63 and 67 points to beat the leader. Tough, but an 18-1 shot to do so?

None of the above constitutes a tip or financial advice, and anyone stupid enough to rely on my maths/betting tips does so at entirely their own risk.

Does anyone know a website with the historical data for topscorer charts?

I've had a look, but with no luck.

Don't think anyone's going to run away quite in the way that Sheff and Reading did last season. I reckon there's 4 or 5 teams that look to have an eye on the title. I also think that with Parky, Tilson and Simpson all coming in to the league teams taking points off the top teams will be more frequent. I'd say the handicap bet looks excellent.

40/1 is crazy money for a striker who may move to one of the better teams in the division in January and I'm going to stick some money on that as soon as I have finished this post and pressed the button!

Very true, only taking this advice is taking on the assumption that the favourite who is starting with zero points will win the division!

If you fancy say an outsider like Leicester to do well then they start with 18 points(ish) so cutting our points difference to 18 (36-18).

Still though +36 is one healthy bet should you believe SUFC can finish in the top half.

Don't forget everyone else has a handicap as well. So not only would we have to finish within 36 points of Birmingham, we'd also have to finish within 34 of West Brom, 33 of Sunderland etc.

We could still be worth a punt though

Eeehhh!

Eastwood only 25s with my online bookies. Might have to go and find an old account. If they haven't suspended the account for lack of use...

I don't suppose you could find out a price on Freddy playing for England this season.....
Name your price I should think Paul. I'll ask one of our traders next time I bump in to them though.

That wasn't me who forgot that, it was you who failed to mention the other teams also benefitted from handicaps!

I suggest you follow my practice of including disclaimers.

Eastwood has been backed in with Ladbrokes to win the Championship Golden Boot - he's now 28/1 from 40s.
