Blue tinted optimist⭐🦐
I've had fun with this and bless the randomness that provided me with such a letter... truly spoilt for choice and can include some of SUFC's greatest ever players.

The hardest thing has been selecting the team and formation that works. The midfield is a bit light with two of my favourite wide players that ideally should be better in a 4-4-2, but I really couldn't drop either of the 3 stand out strikers. Anyway, after a great deal of deliberation I have therefore elected for 4-3-3, in the hope that my solid defence and superb attack make up for any midfield shortcomings.

I'm actually on holiday next week so am posting my team up here today. My C XI is therefore as follows -

Mervyn Cawston

Paul Clark
Leon Cort
Peter Clarke
Chris Powell

Colin Morris
Phil Chisnall
Willie Coulson

Richard Cadette
David Crown
Stan Collymore

I could also come up with a worst ever Southend XI beginning with C, which maybe could be run alongside? Just a thought. There are some absolute doozies in there!

Ok, the worst - same formation

Carl Emberson

Chris Ramsey
Simon Coleman
Peter Cawley
Robert Codner

John Cornwell
Regis Coulbaut
Gordon Connelly

Francisco Cagigao
Barry Conlon
Lee Chapman

I'm sure Codner was a full back who could play either side but there's always Steve Collins to slot in if not...

Ridiculously strong strikeforce although I think the formation will count against them. I don't see those three working well together.

Hold onto your worst XI fbm, maybe Naps (or someone else) will run a worst XI comp after ..

Right back on track ..

Blimey what a side, and seeing as i've watched 9 of those one i can really relate too .. my 3 favourite strikers all together, along with Clark and Chrissy Powell (my lord)

marvellous

Blimey, I think we have an early favourite!

A pretty decent back four aswell.

*sarcasm mode on*

But, Francisco Cagigao in the worst XI? Big mistake. :nope:

*sarcasm mode off*

Can't really fault that, but I'd have Eddie Clayton instead of Willie Coulson.

Sad not to see wee Davie Cunningham in there either ... "Taxi!" :omg:

Eddie Clayton had a good pedigree and didn't 'arf do well on his debut.*

*Just seen that H has beat me to Eddie C.

The drink would flow with wee Davie Cunningham & Willie Coulson in the same side. :dizzy:

Maybe a bit harsh on Cornwell & Coleman fbm, but you've got some utter dross there. I'd offer Tony Currie, but he knackered himself before kicking a ball in earnest for us.

It's an embarrasment of riches in both directions to be honest... Leon Constantine, Dave Cusack, Leon Clarke, Charlie Mulgrew, Dave Cunningham and Carl Pettefer would, had their names been different, sneaked places into other peoples sides.

On the rubbish XI side, Mel Capleton, Christian Hyslop, Jason Cook and Gary Cross were also close to selection.
