Essex

Tune in.

Team news is as follows

Danish Kaneria is set for his season debut after completing his international commitments with Pakistan. Nick Thornicroft, signed on loan from Yorkshire, is also in the squad and could make his first home appearance.

Alex Tudor and Ronnie Irani both have fitness tests on their knee injuries ahead of the floodlit encounter.

Meanwhile, Andy Clarke is awaiting results of a bone scan on his ankle injury and Graham Napier tests his bruised heel out on Thursday.

Justin Bishop suffered an abdominal strain during last week’s Second Eleven Championship match against MCCYC and is expected to be out of action for four to six weeks.

Essex squad to play Gloucestershire (Friday June 17 at The Ford County Ground, 4.10pm start)

Will Jefferson
Ronnie Irani
Grant Flower
Andy Flower
Ravinder Bopara
James Middlebrook
James Foster
Alex Tudor
Andre Adams
Ryan ten Doeschate
Danish Kaneria
Nick Thornicroft
Alastair Cook

Well it looks like Danish is going to have something to bowl at.

Essex 192-2 off of 33.3 overs (RR 5.73)

Ronnie 67* off of 92 balls
Andy Flower 81* off of just 61 balls

Superb knock from Andy Flower - 127 off 120, I think.

"Say we are top of the league, say we are top of the league!"

Great to beat Gloucs by 55 runs, and then also to beat Worcs yesterday as well.  Whisper it quietly, but Big Will may slowly be in the process of rediscovering his form, which (for me) is extremely good news. His form is vital for Essex - his recent slump has been IMHO one of the major reasons why we've struggled so much in the County Championship...

Not one slog either. Superb stuff.

Well, at his peak, he was rated number 3 in the Deloitte ratings behind Lara and Tendulkar... the class has always been there, of that there is no doubt.

The same cannot be said for his brother, alas...

At his peak he was rated no.1 in the world!

There was a spell around 2000/2001, when he was awesome. He went on a tour of India with Zimbabwe and the Indians just couldn't dismiss him, he averaged something like 250 that tour.

All this, whilst captaining and keeping wicket for one of the weakest sides in test history.

Great point. If he was with a stronger Test nation he would have been an all time legend I am sure. I was there on Friday night and he was a class act.
