Essex - Friends Provident Trophy

Grayson

Life President⭐🦐
Essex are doing brilliantly at The Oval against statski's Surrey. 245-0 after just 36 overs. 370 is looking very possible here. Pettini has got over his pair with 129* so far, with Gallian on 106*.

Is that our biggest one day score?

Yep .. beating the 388 we scored against Scotland back in '92

I spoke to my dad at half time and said it'd be really close as The Oval is full of runs .. i remember the other year Surrey posting 424 vs Glamorgan and they only won by 2 runs .. can't believe we got them out so cheaply .. getting Ali Brown for a first ball duck was decisive i think

It's worth noting that the next 12 highest totals in the Gillette/Benson & Hedges/CGT/FPT after Sunday's score were either scored against non-first class opposition, or over 55/60 overs. The next highest score was 317-5...against Kent in the first match of this year's FPT Group stage.

Mark Pettini's 144 was the equal eighth highest one-day score for Essex, and his partnership with Jason Gallian was the highest for the first wicket in one-day cricket for Essex, and the second highest for any wicket (Graham Gooch and Ken McEwan put on 273 for the second wicket against Notts at Trent Bridge in a 40-over match in 1983).

To go in off three straight ducks and score 144 off 120 balls was a maginificent feat for Pettini. He was dropped on 1 by Batty, when the 'keeper and slips all started celebrating a catch before he'd completed it, but after that he didn't offer a chance until he was out. It was a superb, spirited knock, and I'm glad he's coming back into form now. I just hope people don't start touting him for the England ODI squad again!
