Apparently we're quite long to win this game now which is annoying but fair play, good use of the slower ball to get rid of Shah and Collingwood who were both looking very dangerous. I imagine we need to be about 175 to regain control.

Looks as though we got let off the hook here due to bad light. New Zealand were on course for victory at 127-2 and but it has ended as a "no result". Not a great day for England.

Edit: To top it all there was only one over left to be bowled to make it a match and apparently the New Zealanders were livid :D

not the best way to finish a game but hey if it stops us losing then i'm all for it.

It was far from a certainty that NZ would win. I think NZ needed to score 7 runs off that over, without losing a wicket. Having milked the crap bowlers (Swann, Mascarenhas etc) Broad was about to come back on. Even forgetting Duckworth Lewis, England were only a wicket away from blowing the game wide open.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty awful game, which just screamed mediocrity.

i agree. if they had played the next over needing 7 runs would have meant they would have to look at scoring of nearly every ball. with the pressure and a bit of decent bowling england could easily have got a wicket and turned the game.

Part of the problem was the bowler would be struggling with their run up and grip on the ball, whilst the pitch was getting soaked as it had been raining heavily for about half an hour. If the umpires had allowed that last over to enable a result, I think whoever lost out would have felt aggrieved.

By the same token, I presume the light wasn't particularly great to face someone of Broad's pace, and the outfield would've been far from speedy. With intelligent field placings, seven runs (let alone any additional runs required had a third wicket fallen) would've been tough.

Interestingly, the ECB and Cricket NZ have today agreed that the interval between innings can be decreased to ten minutes. That doesn't neccesarily solve the problem - rain can arrive with an over to bowl for a result to stand on Duckworth/Lewis at any time. I'm just glad I was at the FCG watching Essex beat Kent by a run in the Twenty20 Cup instead!

Good start by England but once the three main bowlers were off New Zimbabwe were able to creep back into it by milking singles and then a few late lusty Kyle Mills blows. The last 30 overs or so was pretty depressing stuff.
