England Call for Bent

steveo

mine to stay the same please
DARREN BENT has been called up for England's World Cup qualifier against Ukraine.

So what dose Kevin Davis have to do?
I dont like Bolton and I dont like Davis but surely this bloke is worth a shout ahead of Cole and Bent.

Interesting... Guess Owen isn't playing for his club, Agbonlahor isn't in form but there must be better English strikers

Got to agree about Kevin Davies, the guy is arguably Bolton's most important player. He would be a great partner for Rooney and it's a shame no England manager can see that.

Can't agree about Davies... Like Carlton Cole, I just can't see him ever having enough to perform at an International level. He's one of these players that don't get the recognition they deserve, but are tremendously overrated by fans in their own corner.

Bent's call up, I think, smacks of a tactical move on Capello's part. I think he's seen that Ukraine have failed to deal with any kind of pace and has chosen Bent over Davies for that role.

If your going for pace then why not Andy Johnson who surely is quicker and has more about him than Bent who I don't rate these days.

What I'm saying is Johnson is more affective at running into the channels and is also playing with confidence. Bent in his Charlton days was a player I really rated but these days.

Well that's exactly the problem... Andy Johnson is more affective at running into the channels, which is precisely what Rooney, Gerrard and the Full Backs are supposed to be doing in Capello's system.

Having Andy Johnson do the same would only blunt our attack.

I'm gutted, even I'm better than Bent, even with a plate & four big screws in my leg!!

Bent is cack & Capello is falling into the same trap as other managers have done, if in doubt look at Spurs or some other wannabe big club!

Jermaine Beckford is better than Bent!

:whistling:

Agbonhlaor is now called up

Bent is ruled out.

How bad can it get? I'm going tomorrow night, can't wait but at the moment looks like we won't have any strikers!! What are the odds that Agbonlahor or Rooney will get taken off injured!!

BBC says Rooney and Gerrard will play just behind Crouch:
BBC Sport said:
Peter Crouch will lead England's attack in Wednesday's key World Cup qualifier against Ukraine at Wembley. Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard are likely to play behind the lone striker in an injury-enforced reshuffle.
England coach Fabio Capello called up Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor on Tuesday after Tottenham forward Darren Bent injured a knee in training.
The Italian said: "I am sure that Crouch is the best forward I can put into the first XI."
Crouch has recovered from the dead leg he suffered in Saturday's 4-0 victory over Slovakia, while Rio Ferdinand is fit to partner John Terry in defence.
Ferdinand could have played against Slovakia but Capello decided not to risk the Manchester United man, while Shaun Wright-Phillips is also available after a minor ankle knock.

That says Rooney and Gerrard are likely to play behind Crouch. I imagine we will look something like this:

James

Johnson Ferdinand Terry Cole

Barry Lampard

Lennon Rooney Gerrard

Crouch.

Barry and Lampard will be the holding midfielder with Lennon wide right, Gerrard wide left and Rooney in behind Crouch.

Agbonhlaor is now called up

Bent is ruled out.

Anyone else find it a bit disrespectful that he withdrew from the Under 21 squad with "injury" the other day, along with Micah Richards, yet has made an amazing recovery to play for the senior squad if required?
