England 'B' International

Up the Shrimpers

Life President
England play Belarus on the 25th May at Reading the first 'B' international since 1998.

If Freddy Eastwood continues his fine form is there any chance he could be in the squad?

Looks like the match will be for fringe World Cup players, so probably not. But hopefully there might be some more 'B' Internationals lined up.

Was indeed. How right he was!

Matt Le Tissier, on the other hand, did play. He scored a hattrick and hit the post twice, only to be left out of the squad. With all of the fuss about players suffering from fatigue ahead of the tournament it really makes you wonder exactly what the point is.

Point is to assess the fringe players of the WC squad as there are no more friendlies planned before the squad is announced i believe. So its a chance for Sven to pick the 3 or so back up players he wants

None whatsoever. But I wouldn't swap him for any of the (likely) four strikers in the 'B' squad. Who I would assume will be Darren Bent, Darius Vassell, Andy Johnson and (possibly) Kevin Davies.

Rumour has it that Michael Owen will be captaining the team as he bids to regain full fitness for the World Cup. Imagine the starting line to look something like this:

James

Young King Dawson Bridge

Wright-Phillips Parker Nolan Downing

Owen Bent.

Players like Green, Anthony Gardner, Konchesky, Johnson, possibly Defoe to make up the squad.

Chris Sutton is exactly the sort of player I'd welcome to the Hall to ease our transiition into the Championship (hopefully!!!) Having seen him play numerous times for Celtic he brings so much to the team, effort, passion, desire, ability to play anywhere you ask him too. If he hadn't been so pig-headed with Hoddle he'd still be worth a place in today's England squad, better than the likes of Heskey, Crouch, Vassell etc.

His brother John might be worth a punt too as a squad player.

Oh & while we're at it, get the Blue Belles to reserve a spot for his wife (an ex Page 3 model!!!)

Parker is out for the season. Hope you are right about Nolan, though. Otherwise, it is likely that he will be poached by Ireland, as STaunton has stated that he is going to go down the Jack Charlton line of calling up players with the most tenuous Irish links.

I didn't realise that about Parker, possibly someone like Jenas/Hargreaves or someone like that to fill in.

Nolan deserves a go for England, not good enough to dislodge Gerarrd or Lampard but is better then Jenas and Hargreaves.

Owen Hargreaves, plays for Bayern Munich and is a decent player for them by all accounts but always struggles on the international team. Could have played international for England, Wales, Canada or Germany but Sven got in there first.

A holding midfielder than can fill in any where across the midfield as well as the full back areas.

A complete donkey who sums up Eriksson lack of tactical nouse.
When chasing games what you don't want is the Hargreaves of this world!

Which was presumably the point last time round, when Matt Le Tiss' 3 goals were evidently not deemed to be enough. I generally think that Sven's record in terms of results exceeds what we could reasonably have expected, but if he hopes to learn anything new from a B international against Belarus then I'm not quite sure why.

if they continue to play these types of games regularly, then next season there is no reason why Freddy couldn't make a squad. But it is better for players like Ashton who have proved they are excellent at U21 but is the type of player sven wont give a chance to.

Wish the welsh had got there first!

Hargreaves is a very good player who for some reason the media have turned on, probably because they haven't seen his great play for Bayern over the past four years. When he started on the right against Sweden before Euro 2004 he was our best player on the night and if he was played there or in the holding role he would down himself justice.
