End of Season reflection.

Roots Hall United

Guest
Guys and gals. As the season draws to a close, and our last home game tomorrow, i call on all of you to take as much as you can from this season. To take pride, belief, faith and the sense of achievement.

Yes we are relegation favourites now, but let's not giv up til it's over. And if it is, so what? I have loved this season.

The beating of Manchester united in front of the world, and the subsequent game at white hart lane, and an fa cup 4th round tie as well, is a culmination of everything that has been achieved in the last 3 years.

And i don't know about you, but i am sure proud. I love this club, i love everything about it!

We are southend united, and relegation could just be the begginning of another new era.

Look at what has happened. We have the fastest, and pontentially one of the best wing midfielders in the league, and possibly the country being jamal. Our stiker is worth 7 figures, and our goalkeeper is one of the best in the country. (voted in the top 5)

We have played to many capacity crowds, and our average will be over 10,000!

we have knocked out the world's biggest team who fielded 8 or 9 international regulars, and stopped them retaining their title. We have had enormous press, tv and newspaper coverage. And now everyone knows who southend united are.

If we go down, we will be one of the biggest teams in league 1. I cannot wait for what next season hold. Whatever league we're in.

So tomorrow, 1 southend great and legend is leaving. The word legend is used too much these days, but spence prior is deserving of such title. Let's give him great support.

Another southend hero, could have his last roots hall game with us, and that is Fred. Yes he has looked out of touch, yes he has been off form, but he has been a major part in our succesive promotions. We rely too heavily on him, but that's what happens when a player is high profile.

I hope to see many of you in the end of season party **** up in the spread tomorrow. If not, i hope to see many of you on the pitch after the game.

Long live Southend, and long live our successful era.

"Oh southend we love you..."

Maher has indeed been an extremely vital part of our season. He has come of age, so to speak.

Lead from the front.

There's loads I would normally take issue on in that but seeing as it is positive and is broadly what I'm thinking, we'll let it be.

I'm hoping we reward the fans loyalty tomorrow with a good win.

one of the biggest clubs in league 1 , dont make me laugh, lets look at the facts an average crowd of around 7,000 is going to make us about the 12th best supported team next season.

Millwall and Forest(if they dont win the play offs)far bigger than us

Swansea City average crowds of 12,000 when they are doing poor

teams like blackpool and oldham floating around the play offs, far bigger than us and with a bigger pedigree,

then you get to teams in the middle of the league carlise tranmere, again support wise bigger than us,

we are on a par with gillingham, swindon and dare I say orient both in playing ability and support at league 1 level

Oldham got s**t support, Blackpool don't have same crowds as they used to be when Stanley Matthew was running riot on the wings in 50's - most of their crowds drift to support Liverpool and Manchester Utd & most of Lanc's club. Tranmere? don't make me laugh, they only boughted 250 fans to Root-Hall in our promotion winning season. Swansea haven't done badly this season, but the crowd only support them when they are winning - I remeber Swansea get only 3'500 when they was fighting relegation to Conference!

silly old me, of course, I was forgetting that we used to take 5 to tranmere back the 1908s and possibly 100 to swansea in the early 90s, dont make me laugh, we are not a big club, so how many would we take to tranmere next season, 250 no way. Swansea will bring min 500 next season, and us down there 200.

Away supoprt is dictated to by how well the team is doing, if we are getting promotion and tranmere is our last away game, then we will take 2,000

look at torquay when they won promotion at our place over 1,000 fans

5k shrimpers at White hart Lane,
5k Shrimpers at WHL,
3.2k at St Marys -
? Sunderland,
? Hillsboro
etc etc. what a season !

Hate to say but agree, we are around 9th in league one attendance wise.

Blackpool arent bigger than us though, 6-8000 a game.

you sound as though you hate us (assume you are "us" as you say "us" in your post) .... or am I missing something?:(

Have to say I agree wholeheartedly with RHU its been a great season come what may.As always with fotball its a case of if only this if only that blah blah blah. The knockers will always knock because they dont know any different.Me I've loved it all good and bad, personal highlights obviously Spurs and Man U, but also Sunderland away despite the result, and just being involved in this league its so much bigger than when we were here last time. So bring on next season where ever we are because southend United are my club and to coin a phrase I'll support them evermore.
