In a strange way I'm quite pleased it wasn't a player. As for it being Penney, I doubt it will have much news life as I assume he is not a habitual ****head who is always in trouble. I'm sure he will be very annoyed with himself now, and it won't happen again.

Mind you, if we get promoted at the play-offs next season, I'll help with his fine if he does re-offend. It would be worth it.

Doubt there's any rush on Barrett, he won't want to go elsewhere so it will just be a matter of negotiating a deal that suits both parties, whereas other players can start talking to other clubs from Saturday so more urgency there.

Surprised that Williams hasn't been kept on but guessing Brown just doesn't think he'll develop into the player we think he might. Also surprised that both Atkinson and Deegan have been kept, thought it might be one or the other, but the more stability going up the better really.

Hopefully the Penney situation can be resolved quickly before pre-season and won't have any long term consequences for him or the club.

Penney's issue shouldn't affect us too much. As long as he can block it out at work. You really have to go some to get jail time these days. Although assault covers a wide range of scenarios, if the copper was being a jobsworth he could have nicked him for something as minor as grabbing his arm.

I think what is important here is the spirit of the team, which seems exceptional at the moment. Continuity is also important. The likes of Deegan and Atkinson are and never will be world beaters, but they are very useful squad players as has been proved this season. Sure we need to strengthen the squad, but making wholesale changes rarely ever works, What this team does is fight for each other and whether in the team or not seem to have a strong bond as a group. That can be worth points alone in a tight season such as the one we have just had. Sure we need to improve in a few areas and im sure PB will do so. For me the key area for us is upfront. Defensively we are strong and defensive midfield also. What we need is to improve the attacking option and certainly find a proven goalscorer, which should be slightly easier having gone up a league. For me if Payne steps up he can potentially solve the playmaker role, if not we need this area covered and also at least twp strikers with pace very much like the Asombalonga/Tomlin partnership.

That bloody ref should have been arrested, that's all I know on the subject.

Re the players, assume PB see's Bolger and Thompson as the future first choice CB pairing. Both have shown when switched on they could cope at a higher level, leaving Prosser plus one (hopefully Barrett) as the backup. Would imagine Paul Smith's future depends on whether Bentley stays or not. If he goes, I reckon Ted Smith will become no.1 with PS there is a reliable backup if Ted struggles or gets injured etc. If Bentley stays I reckon PS will go.

Can see why Atkinson & Deegan have been offered deals. They may have to accept they'll become squad players behind hopefully better new signings but you need reliable backup's and we can't afford to have new higher earners sitting on the bench. Plus they've earned it for their efforts this year. I know there's no room for sentiment in football but I'd prefer us to be a club that shows a bit of loyalty to players who's achieved something for us.

I bought the echo but havnt read it yet, saw the names of the players, didnt see about Penny. What was he arrested for?

It was on the front cover!.....and news item on page 4. How did you miss the huge picture of him on the front cover?

I can see why they have offered deals too. If you look at what the squad could look like, they become good squad players:

GK: Bentley
RB: White
CB: Bolger
CB: New signing
LB: Coker
RW: Worrall
CM: Timlin
CM: Leonard
LW: New signing (McLaughlin)
CF: Corr
CF: New signing

GK: T Smith
CB: Barrett
CB: Thompson
CB: Prosser
FB Cover: New signing
CM: Deegan
CM: Atkinson
CM: Payne
Wing cover: Weston
CF: New signing
CF: New signing

Similar to how people saying we should have Paul Smith as a coach, we don't need another goalkeeping coach either.

Our current goalkeeping coach is part time. He only comes to training once or twice a week and does not go to away matches. So when he is not there Paul Smith takes on the coaching role. Paul is currently working towards his coaching badges. From a cost point of view it would be better to have one coach who can also play if required.

Guessing Penney would of been offered a caution for the incident but if he accepts that then he accepts that he was in the wrong for the alleged assault - he will end up going to court for thsi one and hope that it gets dismessed otheriwse it won;t bode well if he wants to coach Kids / youth team etc in any capactity going forward

I also heard that other clubs were interested in DP and that will also hinder his chances

We'll also have Weston

Dave Penney - if true, surely that's gross misconduct and dismissal?

**** me, why dont we hang him whilst we are at it.

Im not condoning his behaviour however most people have been out after a big release of emotion, and things happen. Rightly or wrongly. We aren't talking about a habitual offender, we are talking about someone who is celebrating a huge milestone, he may of been defending one of the team and caught up in a situation that just snow balled. It also might be a whole lot of nothing. The old bill might of been a Col Ewe fan in which case he probably deserved the clip round the ear he gave him :omg:

Penney hasn't been charged, so as KS says - let's not jump to conclusions just yet!

You missed out Luke. He has been offered a contract extension (which I happen to fully agree with)
