Echo - Fee holding up Mulgrew deal

Great news! Wages no stumbling block, and just the fee to be agreed.

Having seen him play, I'd be more than happy for us to pay £150k. Negotiating tactics aside, I suspect so would Ron, Tilly and Brush.

So long as no one else comes in for him, I see it as just a matter of time before he becomes a Blues player.

Well that sounds promising, I would have thought the fee would have been set at a higher figure.

Wonder if Wolves still owe us any money for Freddy and that may just be the sticking point.

I think that £150,000 for Mulgrew is a bargain!? Are we short of cash??

I thought that Wolves would value him at around £250,000.

If this transfer is held up over the sake of £50,000, then I for one will be hugely disappointed in the management. It's all very well taking the moral high ground in terms of wages, but when you pay £100k for someone like Matt Harrold, and you're refusing to pay an extra £50k for a great talent like Mulgrew, Who is a class apart in this league with a deadly left foot, it crosses a line.

Hmmm.... Are these things ever quite as simple as they are portrayed, though? I wouldn't be suprised if the sticking point is over things around the fee rather than the fee itself, like whether we can pay in installments, etc. Given our record of paying out when we felt we needed to, £150k on its own can't be the stumbling block.

Cause not, you never offer asking price 1st thing do you. Its like buying a house or car, you dont straight away offer exactly what the people are asking.

I think he will come, and I think a deal will be agreed. We must have a decent relatiosnhip with Wolves after the Freddy agreement and I think this will help our cause.

Great signing if we can get him, things are looking up !!

piece also says Tilly will be talking to a Championship defender today - Chris Powell??

I would have thought a central defender to replace Clarke, or a left back (not Powell) so Mulgrew could be pushed tothe left wing to replace Gower.

I only say Chris Powell because of what 'Barrys Boss' said ties in with what I also heard from another source....

chris powell..............I am moist already, my favouritist sufc player ever, stevie wonder to replace clarke would do me

Following all the doom and gloom at the end of last week, things are looking decidely more encouraging. Echo the thoughts of most (everyone) on here about Mulgrew.....seems quite a bargain if 'around '150000' is correct. No need to reiterate the players we have paid similar sums for and who didn't quite live up to expectation.....at least with mulgrew we've 'tried before we've buyed!'

As Canvey said, I do wonder if it's a case of waiting to see what can be negotiated in terms of Freddy's exit from Molineux. If he's off for £1.5m to Coventry, QPR or whoever and where due a percentage of that profit, I am guessing if we agree to lessen or waive what we're due, then it might well pave the way for Charlie to sign. Glad to see wages not likely to be a stumbling block and that we're also trying to recruit another defender too (although as much as I think we need experience, I'm not sure a 39 y/o Chris Powell is the exact answer).
