Eastwood to Pompey Part 46...

palexander

Life President
This is exactly what I said a couple of weeks ago. Some people on here were saying 'Freddy wont go to Pompey because they have got millions and will sign bigger players...' and I said that just cos they have the money doesnt mean players will want to go there and all that money may have to be thrown at 'lesser' players...

Well in todays Current Bun...

Harry Redknapp admits he has had to lower his sights after his high hopes for Portsmouth were scuppered by a lack of success in the transfer market. The manager has spoken of his despair after more top transfer targets slipped through his grasp last week.

This is what I feared - Harry getting frustrated not being able to lure big names, the money is sitting there so he will have to lower his sights. I wouldnt be suprised of a 'bigish' bid this week for Eastwood or Nugent of Preston.

£3m plus Todorov on loan

Roll on Thursday and ending the worry (for now!)

I'd say Nugent is probably the more likely but then he does know Freddy from West Ham. Who would he see as his priority - Eastwood or Nugent? Would Nugent actually go to Portsmouth?

would be mad not to accept that deal... 3million can go a long way at this level, will secure us staying up and hopefully attract some good players as they will look to fill freddys boots instead of being his understudy

Yep would take that sort of deal ( i really don't think it will happen however. . ) Totorov has scored loads of goals In the Championship when Portsmouth got promoted, At least if a deal did happen we could finaly settle down to life with out Eastwood and concentrate on staying up.

I heard a vicious rumour last night, although i do think its the biggest load of b******s i've heard...

Was told last night that We'd accepted a bid of around £2.5m for Freddy from Charlton, who had gone up for a look around and medical. Test results came back that he had an STI and Charlton wouldn't touch him... Which is also the real reason he's been having blood tests recently.

Load of Bullsh!t of course... The main flaw being that Freddy's a family man.

All of this said, does anybody really think Freddy is currently ready to step up?

Personally, I dont - not yet. Once again on Saturday he showed that he doesnt yet have that extra few % to make a bit of space when being closely marked.

I dont doubt his goal scoring ability, but I think he needs to keep his head up and be a little more 'clever' off the ball.

I'm sure in a year or two he will be totally ready and I fear him leaving too early and losing his way...

Charlton would certainly be a club that would come in for Freddy - more than Portsmouth in my opinion...

yep, prem clubs aren't stupid, and charlton will be keeping a close eye on him as they are one of a few nearby clubs where freddy could go to. doubt he would head back to wet spam, and i dont think watford will still be in the prem next season

Totally agree! It would be a big gamble for a prem club to buy Freddy now.

I think Freddy needs some stability with regards to the level he is playing at before he'll be a worthwhile transfer target for anyone really. Those that can afford what we want will expect someone closer to the finished article I would have thought. Realistically, if you could get Nugent for anything less than twice the price of Freddy, something I suspect you can, I'd opt for Nugent because he looks like a Premiership player in waiting.

I agree, I'm also a bit concerned about his breathing problem as his performances have dipped lately. It's difficult to tell whether thats because of his health issue or the fact that he doesn't have a decent partner up top (or indeed that he is being extremely well-marked by better defences).

No doubt about it though he'll be good enough to play in the Premiership at some stage and I doubt it'll be long now.....

true, his breathing issues do sound like a worry, but the fact that he played 90mins in the last 2 games must suggest it isnt a serious issue. plus against leicester and sunderland he was marked pretty well. hopefully ricketts will be the foil that he needs to become an established championship striker, and once he is im sure prem clubs will become interested

Errr has anyone noticed that Portsmouth are 2nd in the Prem with a +7 GD?

If existing strikers are doing the business how long would it take for another striker to get a look in?

I bet if you searched enough message boards several strikers are being associated with Pompey

Take Jason Euell, Nugent et all

Stop this rubbish about Fred going...breathing problems and anything else that gets mentioned......he needs to have at least 15 Championship goals by Jan 1 for any prem club to think about signing him to replace existing strikers

Redknapp has already said they need more players... I think they are ok up top though with;

Kanu
Benjani
Lua-Lua
Todorov
Mornar

What STI do you think Mr Eastwood has ALLEDGEDLY contracted?
blush.gif

a) gonorrhea
b) chlamydia
c) syphilis
d) genital herpes
e) hepatitis B or C
f) chancroid
g) other?

And why would Charlton be so concerned?
oops.gif

Are players frightend of sharing the same toilet seat on the team coach? - "Its no good standing on the seat, the craps in here can jump ten feet!"

biggrin.gif

BTW - Wasn't there a rumour about Lawrie Dudfield ALLEDGEDLY catching something after the LDV final against Blackpool? If so, surely teams would be reluctant to take players with STI/STD histories?
