Eastwood Blog

At the risk of upsetting the blinkered amongst you. This is why travellers get my blood pumping.

I appear to have had a post deleted for mentioning the fact that Eastwood is trying to pull a fast one by obtaining retrospective planning permission for the illegal house he has built.

What did I say that was so wrong?

The reason that pikeys get such bad press is because even when they earn an estimated 100.000 a year they are not prepared to buy property through the correct channels. Why should goal hero Eastwood think he can buy a plot of 'farming' land for 2000 and then try and get retrospective planning permission.

If he does get a retrospective planning permission then perhaps the previous owner should get a retrospective valuation and recieve 250.000 an acre for building land rather than the 2000 loveable goal hero Eastwood paid him

Very probably Matt but don't you think it a little strange that that planning permission is being granted on illegal traveller sites which have already been built on without permission in the first place. And lets be brutally honest here. We all know he is going to go all we are interested in as a player, how much we are going to bank from his transfer. I had to get planning permission, what makes him any different?

to be honest, when the farmer (or whoever it was) sold the land to a load of travellers for a few grand he probablly had some idea as to what they were going to use it for! He made a few quid, quickly and is now not too worried.

not that i am totally defending this kind of behaviour, things like planning rules are there for a reason.

to be honest though, for all intents and purposes freddy is more than likely 'turning good' as he can no longer get away with many of the usual traveller 'tricks'.... I can't imagine he gets his wages each week in a cash envelope!!

Nothing makes him any different, Seb. He's a darned cheeky monkey, and he has got away with it.

He won't be the first and he won't be the last, sadly... and I don't condone his actions. He ought to have got planning permission first... and in one of those "ends justifying the means" situations, he can now turn round and celebrate the fact that he has now got planning permission.

But what makes him any different from the people who used to live two doors down from my folks' place in Eastwood (pun not intended!), who got all their own planning applications through on the nod and ensured that all their neighbours' got blocked... because, would you believe it, the bloke in questioned worked in Southend Borough Council planning department.

Was that fair? Of course it bloody wasn't. But people use and abuse their positions all too frequently. Basildon Borough Council probably thought that they could do without the adverse publicity of chucking Freddy out of his home... and so he's managed to use his position to his advantage, hasn't he?

It's not right, but that's just a fact of life, isn't it?

Yours, somewhat pessimistically,

Matt

Sod waiting for permision.

I think Ron Martin should follow Freddy's example and start building the new stadium today.
