e-mail from Ron Martin

Reg Martin

No Relation
Received an e-mail from Ron Martin this afternoon thanking me for sending in an e-mail to Inquiry in support of new stadium. He, or whoever sent it on his behalf, had obviously read through my e-mail as he referred to a specific comment I had made. Thought this was a nice touch as it would have been easy to have sent out a bland, generic e-mail.

I think Ron mentioned this during his on pitch speech some weeks back. It is good that it was a personal reply, rather than a cold standard effort plus also that he actually did what he said.

Well played for sending one in and well done to the club for responding.

Yes as above. I think thats brilliant to even get a reply!

Alot of clubs wouldn't bother and if they did (months later) it would more than likely be a standard letter they send to millions of people.

Well done that man!

i get loads of emails from ron and steve tilson abouts plans ect and the team

Just recieved one as well, and as Teeside said, he mentioned specific parts of my email. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.... what a great club we all support :)

Never....I am innocent.....I have been framed...

Says the man who's taking this one a mile off topic!

Back on track :D ... here's the email....thanks Ron if you ever read this...top man...

Dear Paul

I was heartened to read from your email of 2nd October that you are a lifelong Southend supporter and as you say the new stadium will, indeed, make Essex proud and able to compete with any in the country.

It is now over a month since the Inquiry closed, since when I have been catching up with other responsibilities and therefore apologise for the delay in writing. However I did not wish the period to pass without writing to thank you for taking the time to email Sarah Banwell at the Government Office.

As soon as we receive the decision notice I shall, of course, advise all supporters via the Club’s website. We do know that the Inspector will complete his report and recommendation by the end of next week - 7th December - and therefore hopefully the Secretary of State will be in a position to notify the Club as to her decision around the end of January.

Up the Blues!

Kind regards

Ron

Eh why does it take nearly two months to announce the decision? :thump:

I was also delighted to see that I got an email form Uncle Ron today. Obviously the last two paragraphs of the email above are the standard ones going out to everybody, but I do find it really impressive how he has bothered to make the opening paragraph personal to each recipient. Mine said:

I am extremely grateful to you for setting out in detail in your email of 2nd October all the reasons why you feel the new stadium plans should be supported. I know you have personally been supporting the Blues for over 20 years and I was pleased you were able to make mention of the extremely good natured supporters we have at Southend which, as we all recognise, are a considerable credit to our Club.

He omitted to thank me for the many mentions I made of him and how wonderful he is, but maybe I'll get the cheque in the post tomorrow!!

:D

But I think it's an excellent touch, and it certainly made me feel appreciated and that my efforts had been worthwhile, and that we have a really top bloke in charge of our magnificent football club.

Got my email today from Ron. A great touch in my opinion. Roll on the end of January and lets get another better satdium than those reprobates from up the A12 i say!
