Duran Reynolds

southend4ever

I used to play a little.
I never had the fortune to see this lad play but every 6 months or so there seems to be the question raised about our youth setup and this guy was often mentioned.

I do not know if I have any right to be disappointed but the fact he has signed for D&R on a 3 year contract leads me to believe he has the potential to make the grade as a pro. Does anyone ITK have any idea whether this lad is anywhere near ready for league football yet? I note that this topic is on the Ex-Shrimper page after publishing perhaps someone could shed more light.

Thanks and Kind Regards,

Haven't seen him play for quite a while but saw him play about a year ago and judging that and how much time has progressed, he could probably get onto the bench of quite a few League 2 sides, would have been useful if he'd stuck around

I saw him play a couple of times* and my initial impressions were that he had non-league clogger written all over him.

I nearly fell off my chair when I saw Dagenham had offered him a 3 year deal. A year's deal would have surprised me because he's nowhere near League 1 standard IMO, but a 3 year deal made me wonder if they were planning for consecutive relegations.

I won't claim to have the definitive opinion on him - Exiled Shrimper has seen loads more of him than me and thinks higher of him - but I don't see him as anywhere near to League One standard at the moment. My impressions were that his positioning was poor, he lacked mobility and didn't have the height to compensate.

*so not really enough for me to claim to have a properly informed opinion of him. I think one occasion he was just returning from a long lay-off as well.

Interesting thoughts. Im amazed any club in league one or 2 can offer a 3 year contract to any player, especially us!!

I'm surprised that he got a 3-year contract, but not surprised at all that a League club came in for him. He was offered a one-year development deal with Southend, so it wasn't the case that we just let him go, but I think that he was unlucky not to be given something more substantial. At the end of 2008/9 and the very beginning of 2009/10 (when he played in a couple of pre-season friendlies with some decent reviews on here IIRC), Reynolds was really playing well; he was converted from a left-back to a centre-back, but he picked up an injury and missed out on 6-8 weeks of the season, and that took him out of the spotlight at a time when we were struggling for central defenders. He did do well in a struggling side at Grays Athletic at the end of last season, but I guess not quite enough to get a pro contract.

I've seen him a good few times too, and he seems like another player who was hyped too much by Duncan.

Other than potentially Franck Moussa, have we any youth team products playing league football at the moment?

I suppose there is Leon Johnson from the class of '98.

Ademano at non-league Crawley seems to be the highest I can think of from this millennium.

I saw him play a few times and was not impressed at all.

if you actually saw this guy play and to say he never impressed then you know nowt about footie and must of never seen him play at all as he should of got at least 6-8 sub apps behind him with all the injuries we had, this guy will go and show yet again what a big mistake it was to let such a great player for the future go yet again.

Ademeno has signed for Grimsby, other than that, no one. We have had players move to Premiership clubs, such as Orenuja (SP?) and N'Goo (or something like that), but they are too young to be considered for the first team.

Derby fielded Abalimba and Ledgister last week, not sure if they've featured in the league or not.

Grimsby are in the Conference.

A great player? Really? Really?

and yet, Tilly told me, back when Wignall had just been made manager, that Macca was the most naturally talented player they had at that time. His heart just wasn't in it.

I don't think it was heart with McSweeney, but confidence.

When he didn't look like a rabbit in headlights, he looked a very good player. I'll never forget him turning up on the opposite wing and executing a perfect Cruyff turn. He went through about a month where every game he'd just pull out a quality bit of skill like a nutmeg and you wondered where he'd been hiding that ability.
