Dreams and Nightmares -

Rayleigh boy

Director⭐
ever dreamt of playing for the Blues ?

woke up in an absolute panic this morning knowing I had to phone Steve Tilson to let him know that despite last weeks good performance I couldn't play this week as I was 33 (I wish) and not really a professional footballer - all a bit strange as Kevin Maher was round my house at the time watching TV and my mum was about 40 years younger -

the thing was that I was mentally preparing myself for this weeks game and convincing myself that I should push forward and score more often -

had a real sensation of not having the bottle for getting out there again and hence having to let the boss know -

strange but true - and of course my position was left back - and I would say
this was definately a nightmare.

i bet i am not alone in these dreams - any others ?

About 3 months before LDV final II I honestly dreamt vividly (which for me is strange as I rarely remember my dreams) we would be triumphant at the Millennium against a team in red/white, with an Eastwood goal. Little did I know it wasn't the game against Wrexham but the playoff final I had foreseen.........

Many years ago I had a dream that I played in goal for Southend and we lost 3-2 away at Wimbledon. The next day I went to watch Southend lose 3-2 away at Wimbledon. The only difference was that I didn't play!

As an aside, is it only Southend fans that dream they play for their club, and lose?

I dreamt we would lose 1-0 at Aylesbury - and had a nice wager on it to help soften the blow. IIRC Aylesbury were 11/2 for that home win. Probably should have done the correct score too.

I once dreampt that I won millions in the lottery and brought out Ron Martin. You - The fans loved me at first but Rob Newman squandered the millions I gave him and I had no more.

Then all you fans turned on me and I was to scared to come to Roots Hall. Even my own man turned on me for ruining the club.

DtS :fury:

Just before the start of the 2005-2006 season I started having a recurring dream in which the team ran out to "Sweet Georgia Brown" before dazzling us with a Harlem Globetrotters-like display of one-touch passing, ball juggling etc. This neatly segued into some matchplay sequences in which Jay Smith and Kevin Maher were spraying balls left and right to the wings from where they immediately pinged back into the box and were headed or volleyed into the back of the net with the soundtrack still running. Not quite what happened in the end but close enough for me :)

I dreamt that during the Whelan 'era' I played centre-midfield for the Blues alongside Albanian ace Rudi Vata. One game I remember was away at Port Vale and Mark McNally played while riding on a donkey. Dave Regis played up front but was shackled to Theo Foley throughout and kept saying 'Dont let me join Barnsley I am your top scorer'. There was also a young lad with a big nose who was Port Vale's mascot. I remember being confused as to why the lad broke into tears and said 'Daddy why are the Southend fans booing me?'. Looking back this school-kid was clearly supposed to represent the coming of Billy Paynter to Roots Hall ten years into the future.

Spooky or just stupid?

I don't know, but I'd like to buy the film rights to it.

My dream is of the recurring variety and has gone on now for something like 5 years - ever since I replaced Darryl in goal for my shot-stopping ability and acrobatic coverage of the penalty area.

The dream always ends just after I save a top-corner penalty, become disillusioned by the team's performance at 0-0, lay the ball down on the floor and beat seven players on my rush-goalie journey towards the opposition's goal. I somehow never quite get to see whether my thirty-yarder which is headed for the top corner actually goes in...
