Personally I prefer dogs and here are the reasons why.

Their loyal...a cat will bugger off.

Ever seen guide cats for the blind?

Cats cant sniff for drugs / bombs and in there spare time dont sniff each others butts.

Can a cat herd sheep?

A dog could scare off a burglar?, can a cat do this?

Was it a cat that found the world cup when it got nicked?

Famous dogs - Lassie / Hong kong phoey / deputy dawg / Snorbitz plus loads more.

Would a cat deliver brandy to you if you were trapped up a snowy mountain?

Beagles - can smoke 60 fags a day...can a cat?

famous cats -

catwoman
topcat
bagpuss
pink panther - type of cat!
Garfield

I like dogs, but cats are hard and cool and would probably smoke Gitanes and listen to freestyle jazz if they could...

Poll! Poll! Poll!

Depends on the breed of dog completely as demonstrated by the above statement. I cannot stand the yappy little dogs, and I think they have a pretty useless existence. Cats are better than them.

However...
Their loyal...
Train a dog right, and it is definitely much more loyal (and helpful if it gets the paper!). Kill off the yappy breed of dog and this is a no brainer.

'Big' dogs definitely rule over cats.

If you dropped a dog upside down from your upstairs window it would suffer serious injury and maybe death, where as a cat would spin over, land on its feet and walk away*

Have you ever seen a cat so stupid it chases it's own tail?

There's no worse smell than "wet dog"

*Please do not try this at home to be certain!!

 Absolutely right MK, cats are cool and chic, they are also crazy and kooky at times. They have minds of their own and usually smell a lot more acceptable than some dogs! When a cat jumps on your lap and gives you that look of total adoration before curling up happily and going to sleep, it gives you a feeling of companionship that is completely different to the way in which a dog is a good companion.

I like most pets as it goes, our dwarf hamster boys are also quite affectionate in their own way! Not very fond of my friend's boy's lizards though!

What about Lassie? Lady and the Tramp? Eight Below? Pluto? Scooby Doo?

All famous dogs that save people or others, what film does an actual cat do that in?

Dogs rule!
