Do we really want Robinson?

EastStandBlue

Although the prospect of having someone with Robinson's talent in the squad is mouthwatering, do we really want someone with his character here?

Swansea fans are turning their back on him after it came out the club have offered him several contract offers and he's turned them all down. It would have made him the 2nd highest earner at the club behind Trundle.

Seems to me as if he's driven by Money and is even contemplating a move to Cardiff if it means more money. Not the type of player Tilly buys, or the type of player we want here IMO.

Once again, I don't think it is possible to determine the character of an individual based on reports of contract negotiations, which no one is privvy to.

Have you considered that the club's statement may well be spun in order to displace blame away from them. I'm not suggesting that the club were in the wrong because I don't know what happened.

We do not know who was where in the room so it is impossible to determine his character from those negotiations.

Personally I don't think we'll even move for him again if the reported fee of £400k is anywhere near accurate

i think its unfair on him to accuse him of being driven by money. i feel sorry for the rest of the squad who earn a lot less than trundle. yes he is a good player but last season robinson was by far the player that stood out and masterminded there surge into the playoffs (although trundle did destroy us at the hall). i think robinson must feel that he is worthy of a good deal to keep him playing at a lower level than where he could possibly achieve. he's given swansea the chance to keep him, and its up to them to see how badly they want him to stay

i think its not robinsons fault, but more the problem when one player gets a massive wage in comparison to the rest of the squad. im pleased that RM and tilly have kept our wages sensible and that our "stars" are on similar wages to the rest of the squad, which is probably why our team atmosphere is second to none

therefore i definitely want robinson! someone to bang in 17goals from midfield and wants to play at a high level!

Who therefore, by your own reasoning, would be no good for the team as he would prob be on more than anyone else!!

Are we to assume that Ricketts is the highest paid player at the club now??

no i think that there is a three way trade off for robinson to make.

1. stay at swansea and take a much higher wage as reward for what he has done and recognition that he could have moved to a better club but chose not to. (similar to what trundle did).

2. move to stoke/cardiff and get a pretty decent wage. however will probably not want to move to cardiff due to the rivalry and stoke because they are team who are not doing much at the moment

3. go to southend but not receive a significant pay rise, play for a team where he is guaranteed first team football if plays at his best... good moral and a team that are on the up. if he came to us he wouldnt earn any more than the others who have got new contracts with us (francis, hammell ricketts. and still think maher will be our top earner)

I would love him here, he scored more than all our non-eastwood stikers last season.

To survive long term in this league we will need quality players, good team spirit wont keep us up long, and if we struggle lets see how long that team spirit lasts.

Personally dont see Robinson coming here, however he is definitely the sort of player we need.

Would be a great signing and will show we mean business to the rest of the league that we intend to stay

Personally sounds like more trouble than he's worth....

Just like in work work place.. we need workers who pull together for the cause... and will have no HEART for the Shrimpers... another Tinkler me thinks... great player but no heart for our be loved club

He seems like a good player, and if he comes here it won't be for our wages as other clubs can offer him better terms.

So in the unlikely event that he does sign for us, I'd welcome him.

All this talk about new players not wanting to play for our cause puzzles me.

Why is it half the quality players we get linked with people claim will destroy the team spirit ?

Why would Robinson not be committed to our club (if he signed) ?

Just because he feels undervalued at Swansea and wants more money doesnt make him a trouble maker.

We need quality players and they are always going to be the ones wanting more money at their current clubs.

Anyway if the stories of a 20 man brawl in training on Friday have any truth Id say this team spirit might not be as strong as everyone makes out, they are only human after all!

I love my job and my company. But at the end of the day my loyalty is to myself to get the best deal I can. If my boss cant offer me what I think I am worth then I will consider my options.

I dont see why Robinson should be any different. Mark Rawle on the other hand....

The question should be "do we NEED robinson" in which case no. He would be a nice luxery but at the minute we are fine as it is.

I think we need him too. We've got three centre-midfielders, one of whom is guaranteed to talk his way into at least two suspensions a season and another with a body seemingly made out of papier-mache.
