Do Southend always choke at the Hall -

Rayleigh boy

Director⭐
chokers ?

given the chance to go top x 2 -

last season every opportunity to get the points to beat the drop -

and a few before that -

is it the tense nervous atmosphere on big game days or

is it the presnece of so many moaners and groaners or

is it because Sir Steve gets all wound up ?

Unfortunately I reckon we do as well. Remember the Yeovil game a few years ago when a win would of sealed the title for us and we passed the ball around the goal mouth rather than shoot...and end up losing 1-0 and going up via the playoffs.

True (and thanks for reminding me of that horrible day  ), but we didn't bottle in the play-off semi against Northampton a couple of weeks later did we?

It is coming somewhat of an unwanted habit. We lost to Yeovil and Orient in our last two home games 04/05 (true Yeovil won promotion that day but so could we IIRC). We lost to Doncaster and Gillingham in the last two home games in 04/05 but luckily it didn't cost us in the end. We lost the last two home games in 89/90 but won promotion on the last day at Peterborough and we didn't win any of our last four home games in 90/91 which cost us the chance of a championship title.

Though we have on occasion risen to the challenge of a big game so it's not all bad! :p

IMO, we've got a decent recent history of choking away too! Oxford away in League Two was no fun and they were awful.

I'm sure Tilson will get better at managing players in tense times though.

Also, it's a bit weird to suggest we choke at the thought of going top when we've been moved to top spot at several critical stages in the last 4 seasons.

Ah yes,for those that went shalst we never forget.Oxford.
Bloody windy, draughty even with only three sides to the place.
Southend fans fighting each other.
Freddy couldn't hit a barn door.
Tommy Mooney caused us all sorts of problems and scored if i recall.
We were going great guns at the time, that was the start of our stutter.
Oh and it took friggin ages to get out of the car park.

On the plus side, the sort of goalkeeping howlers we just don't seem to get in lofty league one. I think that's all there is on the plus side. Yep.

ages to get out of the car park is an understatement... is that's what it's going to be like at FF? Especially if someone doesnt get rid of the camp bling lot...

Just a quick question while we're "big game reminiscing"... who put the ball in the Bury net?!

The Yeovil game really sticks in my mind, with that **** Jevons scoring the winner from an tight angle when Daryl rushed out to close him down.

Those Northampton games were great, I think we played them 5 times that year (2 x League, 2x P-offs, 1 x LDV?), beat them 4 times & drew once.

Mind you I wouldn't have missed that Play off Final for the world.
