I don't want this to necessarily turn into a player-bashing thread... but the return of Moussa and Grants recent form (along with Stanislas maybe leaving soon) means Tilly has some interesting (and difficult) decisions to make. I personally didn't think we missed him last night, and Moussa looked calm and composed on the ball.

It wouldve been nice to see him play but overall even if we had any player out of the squad they wouldnt be missed. It wouldve been a bonus to get anything from chelsea, and we got our goal which was a bonus. But after the chelsea team was announced I think it was fair to say we wouldve needed more than Macca to win the game

good point, it would have been nice but now he doesnt miss anymore league games and that should be our prority

it was also nice to see grant and the moose playing decently against some alright oppisition

I like Macca, but we didnt miss him, and I am not surprised, he has not been himself all season and Moussa looked total quality, him and Granty ouzed class

agree with this. cristophe couldn't get his foot on the ball really so i think Macca would have been chasing shadows. Moussa managed to create time and space for himself which just goes to show how talented he is, whilst Grant was everywhere

When does Stanislas go back ?

On last nights performance as much as i like macca he could have a problem getting back in the team.

Grant was outstanding last night

I hope that is the case, every player should fight for your position and you shouldnt change a winning team. Although we didnt win I think its safe to say that was a winning league form team

Although I thought Moussa played well, he did the ball away a fair few times, one of those being for the 4th goal. He did create space last night, and if he can do that in the league without losing the ball as much, he should keep his place.

On Grant's performance against Chelsea in both Chelsea games, he would be 1st on my team sheet!

I thought Moussa played very well, he looks like some player, especially going forward.

I still thought we missed Macca's defensive drive though.

No surprises for guessing which way I vote here, as I've said elsewhere, we lacked any creative vision from the cms playing. Yes, Grant played brilliantly, but it tended to be things of his own doing rather than spraying the ball out to the wings; Jeff to me, genuinely missed Macca last night and didn't really gel with Moussa. Moussa looked a lot better for some regular games but faded in the 2nd half, and didn't seem to be tackling as much as the other two.

and Macca is 'creative'? he might pop up in the box to score some goals, but his attacking play is generally limited and his passing over more than 5 yards is on a par with Clarke!

No, can't agree with that at all. Macca is generally the one passing the ball, sometimes over distance out to give the game width, which is why his pass rate is sometimes not all that great as it gets intercepted or is a bit misjudged. Used to happen with Maher too.

Did no-one else notice this moment I mentioned where Barrett seemed to step in to separate Jeff and Moussa from having a bit of a bust up?

I voted no, I think the two lads were another class last night, so young and battling against the best. Macca no doubt would have put in the same performence, but seeing the two others did, no we didn't miss him.

Would have loved to see him play a part though!

Mooooooooooooooooooooooouusa was very good on the ball and may have just earnt a little run in the team

Sorry OBL have to completely disagree, i feel passing is by far the weakest part of Macca's game. Where as Moussa offers something we haven't had since Maher lost form/left, someone who is comfortable on the ball and and has a fantastic range of passing in fact as i recall from wednesday there were at least two or three sublime balls he played.

I have to say, but yes we did miss Macca on Wednesday and again, this is no player bashing thread as they were all heroes out there. But Macca would have started instead of Moussa and we then would not be having the debate on how well Moussa played. Macca gives us drive and adds that little bit of extra snap. Ive said this before and I'll say it again, it was Macca's tackle in the first game at the Bridge, on 38 minutes that got us back into the game, it showed Chelsea we were there and snapped the Southend players out of their respect trance they was in.

I love Macca, I love his passion for the game, and whilst this season, since coming back from injury he has not been the Macca of old, the old Macca has been re emerging from the shadows over the past couple of weeks.

I would point out though, that is actually more of a luxury for Tilly to be concerned about who he can pick out of JFC, Macca, Moussa and Grant, not many managers in this league can have that type of 'worry'. My main concern is that out of the those 4 players, we are missing a ball player, players like Bailey , Gower & Maher have not yet been replaced and this is why our strikers are struggling for goals, we are a creative player short at the moment (Sawyer !!). If you add Sawyer (or a player like him) to the four players above, then you really do have a a perfect mix in the Central Midfield position. Lets hope a player like this will be added over the next few weeks, to really help our season spark up again in the league .

I agree 100% Grant was Man of the Match
