Right, to distract us from this weekend's game we can instead wallow in nostalgia and consider the merits of goalkeeper Derek Bellotti and forward Colin Morris.

Post your memories of both up and a poll will follow later.

Bellotti was my choice, and I selected him for two main reasons. One was that YB needed a 32nd entrant to complete the draw. The second was that I was always highly amused by my Dad's stories of an old work colleague of his whose only comments on Blues' fixtures of the time was that 'Bellotti had a good game'.

A six foot goalie versus a four foot winger. Bellotti was capable but Morris, at his best, was better than capable. His speed and ball trickery set up many a goal and he had a cracking shot on him as well. So it's Morris for me.

This is a bit of a mismatch, unfortunately for Derek Bellotti. He was a good keeper, but again IMO not in the top echelon of keepers we've been lucky to see at Roots Hall, but he was part of our first promotion season, so should not be forgotten.

Colin Morris however was a bit special, signed from Burnley he immediately became a crowd favourite with his wing play and also ability to pop up and score valuable goals. My abiding memory of Morris was at Derby, we had been 3-0 down, but had clawed our way back to 3-2 when Morris burst clear of the Derby defence only for that **** Bruce ****ing Rioch to boot him up in the air in the most cynical of tackles I've ever seen. Result a free kick for Blues, the **** Rioch stayed on the pitch and we lost 3-2.

In his way when Colin Morris left the club it was in a sawp deal with Blackpool for Derek Spence, one hero leaves to be replaced by another.

Morris for me.

Got to be Morris, if only for the game against Liverpool where he gave E Hughes a torrid time at left back.

Colin "Nookie Bear" Morris was a bloody great little player, bandy legged and looking the dead spit of Roger de Courcey. Again, memories of him ripping into the Liverpool team in 79, skipping over the snow with that orange ball at his feet.

Derek Belloti? Hmmmm, sorry Rusty, never one of our "great" goalkeepers, Morris easily here.

That would be Bob Carolgees. De Courcey was Nookie Bear.

Decided to go for Derek as I saw him play down here in Cornwall for my local team Falmouth Town (far too good for the South Western League even at an advanced age)

This is like putting a bantamweight in with David Haye.
Bellotti was never that good - even at Southend. But Morris was always up there in the echelon of lower division wingers. He got kicked by Hughes AND Alan Hanson in the epic Southend v Liverpool crowd-busting epic - and still came back for more.

Colin Morris, a great little winger, remember him well scoring the winner late on at Col U in the late 70's in a 1-0. Belotti was nothing special as a keeper as I recall. CM for me.
