Derby to make a bid for Eastwood....

Sorry, didn't see the other thread on this topic but I would like to point out that my thread has more relevant title and includes a link to the story.

More is more.

All depends what division we're in

750k is a joke!!!

You know how these stories appear in the papers - via agents!

The story probably goes something like this:

Freddy's agent probably has a client at Derby and he is in discussion with Derby County as this players contract is up. In the course of negotiation, Freddy's agent mentions that he is also the agent of Freddy Eastwood, and being an agent, will state that he may well be available, and Southend might accept as little as £750k for him. Derby state they may well be interested in him for that kind of price.

Freddy's agent then goes to his contact at The Sun and says that Derby are interested in Freddy Eastwood and are to bid £750k for him. So The Sun report that. Meanwhile Freddy's agent suits back and basks in the glory that the story has made the papers and will alert other clubs that Freddy may be available at an initial bid of £750k. Other clubs, the agent hopes, will then start sniffing around, and Freddy goes to one of them for £800-£900K. Agent picks up his 20% of that fee, plus whatever his rake-off will be for Freddy's increased salary.

Agent is a happy man. We are pi$$ed off.

Chill guys (or we're in for one long, painful summer).

This is purely the first of many!

Clubs will link themselves with Freddy all summer:

* Out of arrogance
* Out of wishful thinking
* To sell season tickets
* To cover their asses

It doens't mean he'll go and it's certainly not worth us getting jumpy every time it happens. You can argue that we show exactly the same arrogance when we start linking ourselves with players in lower divisions. More often than not, we don't get the man we're linked with and it's the same with other clubs.

Get in the Championship and I'm sure he'll stay.
Fail to go up and it may become a different story.

£750'000 from Derby, that rich from a club who got nearly £30 million in debts & boardroom unrest & they haven't got a manager yet - with Derby fans who want the board & chairman out!

I would wait till we go up & Freddy stock will rise to £3million which is right price for him.

Just discussed this with a Wycombe and Liverpool fan at work who are very much aware of Eastwood. Providing Southend get in the Championship his valuation should be around £2.5m

Just emailed a mate hwo is a Derby fan and his response follows.

Will definitely not be true, the banks are currently refusing to allow any player purchases, the club is in a boardroom split as to who is in control, and the chairman was sacked/stepped down just a couple of weeks ago.

Last game i was at the constant chant was "board out". Derby won't be buying anyone in the near future.

I think I'm right in saying that Eastwood's dad represents him rather than an official agent. I'm pretty sure I heard that a while ago, and well done to him too.

Why so many young footballers in the lower leagues choose to have agents is really beyond me

Because they want to earn as much money as possible out of a short career and are too naive/stupid to negotiate contracts for themselves.

Simple really.

Simple really.
And perhaps because they don't want to spend their entire career in the lower leagues perhaps?
