Supporting SUFC
Over the last few years members of the Shrimpers Trust have spent many hours in discussions with Ron Martin, Colin Wagman, the Chief Executive of Southend Council (George Kraweic and now Rob Tinlin), Lansbury and several other interested parties over the future of the club and the proposed development at FF.
Our dream, like most Southend supporters, was that a move to a new stadium with enabling development designed to fund and grow the club was the preferred route forward.
It became clear to us several months back that the two development partners that make up SEL were unable to agree on the way forward. Conflicts of interest, development profits and emotion have all played a huge part in the recent statements in the press presumably designed to apply pressure in a particular direction.
The Trust's stance is very clear. Our strategy is firstly to ensure Southend United's survival for future generations of supporters and having achieved that, secondly to develop and grow the club (with the owners whoever they are) using any means possible and this may or may not include a move to a new stadium.
Whilst the trust is in a relatively healthy state financially it would take a seed change in membership and its finances to consider becoming involved in the current development proposals. However trust board/committee members are exploring this and other avenues and would be interested in any ideas/proposals that any supporters had.
A further Trust announcement will be made in the near future.
