Decent Text-Editors?

Anyone know any decent text editors?

I've got open office (dont have microsoft word), but I think it's rubbish and when I format my documents, and resave them to .rtf 's they just automatically lose all there formating, and it's annoying.

Anyone ?

I think there called text editors, anyway!? Just had a quick google, and 'text editors' don't seem to be the thing I want.

All I want is a programme (like microsoft word) that enables me to format documents (and save them as .rtf's) so that I can load them in word at school.

Well i think the first problem is saving stuff to rtf :P. And yeah you can save into Word 2003 format .
rtf was micro****es attempt at their own version of pdf
