David Martin in no rush to leave Southend United

Would be foolish to sell him if Hall goes. Intelligent player on the pitch. Really needs a run of games though!

Good attitude from the lad. Not sure what he has done to warrant being transfer listed to be honest. Granted he has not set the world alight. But to be fair, he has not had a fair crack of the whip and he has shown some real glimpses of quality when he has.

If it is for financial reasons then fair enough. But otherwise he should be given a chance to prove himself. We could do a lot worse.

I for one hope he stays. He never got picked regularly despite PS saying at the time of signing him, 'one of my targets Ive been after for a while' or words to that effect. Got picked even less after the Accrington draw, seemed to be made a scapegoat.

Thought he had a good game Saturday until the injury & imo a more than adequate replacement for Hall. Has enough about him to be a threat at this level if he's given the chance to show it. My only criticism is that sometimes he's a bit lightweight & doesn't challenge / be challenged well, but then Hall is hardly prolific in that department either.

Sturrock didn't sign him, that's why.

I like Martin and if the worst comes to the worst and we do lose Hall I see Martin as a more than adequate replacement for him.

Martin is plenty good enough IMO and hopefully when Ryan Hall does soon depart he will be given an oppertunity to impress. Wipe the slate clean and all that.

Well Peter Clarke and Simon Francis spent a whole season transfer listed so this by no means spells an immediate end for Martin.

Well Martin was my Man of the Match until he went off injured on Saturday ...... and in that time I saw more good play from him than from Hall so far this season ....... and a big plus was that Prosser passed the ball on the ground (yes, I repeat ..... on the ground :omg:) to Martin on more than 1 occasion.

So I will add my voice to those that hope he stays and gets a good run in the team.

We had another david Martin in the 80's and he was a good guy too. I hope he stays and plays. If he can form an understanding with whoever is the left back then we could be in business!:smiles:
