Apparently we have a game with daggers tonight at their place in the Essex senior cup.

Not sure what side we will put out but its a good opportunity for some of our fringe players.

Maybe:

Ted

White Sokolik Thompson Kyprianou

Bridge King Youth Youth

Mooney Williams

Bridge out injured apparently according to Echo write up.:'(

Brown has no interest in this competition, will probably field an U21 team in the hope that they get beaten and he can then get back to his sunbed.

I don't think there will be as many first team players as that.

Smith

Alawode-William Coutts Matsuzaka Kyprianou

Youth King Batlowkwa Cotton

Walker Williams

Norman Wabo is a name I haven't heard of recently, maybe he'll be in there too?

Heard a lot of positives about Batlokwa, how far is he, and some of our other youngsters away from the first team? Rochdale played a 16 year old in their team on Saturday - are our youths not good enough or does the club just not have a policy to bring our kids into 1st team action earlier?

Refwatch extra: Our best hope is the fact that referee, Rob Whitton, (now from Chelmsford) used to be a paying customer at Roots Hall !

Very young team though;

Bexon, Bwomono, Matsuzska (c), Coutts, Bedford, Cotton, Williams, Dias, Kyprianou, Wabo, Salami.

Blues beaten at Dagenham in Essex Senior Cup

SOUTHEND United crashed out of the Essex Senior Cup at the first attempt for the fourth year season in succession, losing 3-0 at Dagenham & Redbridge.

What you meant to say was "Dagenham made TEN CHANGES to the side that finished their last league match on Saturday".

Easy mistake to make.

Ok. Let me rephrase that. Dagenham last night had 7 players with professional contracts who played.

Where as we only had 2 players with professional contracts who played.

Why do we bother entering? We fielded a team that was highly likely to lose. Why?
We have fringe players who do not have a team to play competitive matches in and would benefit from a run out - yet we play youngsters who regularly play in a competitive league for their age group.

Indeed, for the fourth year running we have gone out of this competition, falling at the first hurdle. Playing "youths" rather than "reserves" (whereas Dagenham had an equal mix of both) removes the possibility of up to four competitive matches for fringe players.

Mind you our record in the League Cup is even worse going out in the first round for the last six years.

I'm pretty sure we have one of the worst overall records in the League Cup out of all 92 teams. I remember seeing a chart a few years ago with us and I think Port Vale down at the bottom. Since then we have had a good run when we played Spurs but not much else.
