It's been a long time since I last started a new thread however I posted this within another thread Saturday evening during the fallout of the FA Trophy exit but I think it is worth having a separate discussion on it.
Since Saturday 24th February 2024 when we steamrolled 10-man Aldershot 4-1 our league record for Saturday 3pm games at Roots Hall is:
Played 12
Won 1 (Tamworth)
Drawn 5 (Daggers, Woking, York, FGR, Hartlepool)
Lost 6 (Rochdale, Sutton, Gateshead, Maidenhead, Yeovil, Barnet)
In those 12 games we have scored 9 goals and conceded 18.
If you wanted to add cup games to that list I make it 1W (Southport), 1D (Charlton in 90), 1L (Sittingbourne).
For comparison, in the same timeframe, our midweek record is:
Played 9
Won 7 (Altrincham, Dorking, Boreham Wood, Boston, Eastleigh, Ebbsfleet, Fylde)
Drawn 2 (Wealdstone, Dagenham)
Lost 0
In those 9 games we have scored 21 goals and conceded just 6 times.
I think the midweek form has somewhat distracted fans from just how bad it has been for almost a year on a Saturday. If we fail to beat Rochdale on the 15th then it'll be a single league win on a Saturday in a calendar year at home.
How and why can there be such a difference in performance levels?
How much longer will we continue to have the best average attendance in the league before fans simply get bored and decide to stay warm and £20+ richer.
What does Maher need to do to turn this around?
