Cup Round 3

MrB

Life President
So who's still in?

SZFC have a team that fields 170 hatstats in the cup. We're fielding our reserves against the 213 hatstat giant that relegated into our league then MOTSing the cup game to give us a chance. I'm hoping the appalling result that beckons on Sunday will lull them into a false sense of security!

Anyone confident of making Round 4? I guess we'll be able to start the SZ Cup in Week 5.

I'm away to a side that's just as good as me, so I'm not that confident - especially because I'm playing a "Southend United XI", as it were... a mixture of first and second teamers. Quite pleased that Darrell Gaddis, my "future coach" has already popped... he now has passable experience and solid leadership.

I'm slightly in two minds what to do with him. Do I keep him and then make him my next coach when my current solid coach slides down to poor leadership? By then, Darrell may have reached excellent experience... will I be able to afford (and will it be worth) making him an excellent coach?

Hmm... questions, questions. But back to the Cup... dunno. It'll be a close one - and I will be PiN; but with the fact that I'm away from home, playing my second string strike-force and not a full strength midfield ought to make my opponents favourite. We'll see.

Matt

There's a commonly held theory that excellent coaches simply aren't worth the mammoth outlay. To convert an excellent EXP player to an excellent coach will cost you about £3m whereas it's £500k for a solid. Is it worth it for the supposedly small increase in training speed?

I'm a bit narked as my passable/passable future coach has gone and got himself injured.

Yeah, that was pretty much my thinking... although you can't help the little egotistical voice at the back of your head saying, "but I've  got an excellent coach..."

Finance will probably dictate this one - and I'll probably end up not training Darrell up as an excellent coach.  May well keep hold of him, though, and have him as my next solid-solid coach.

Changing subject - what do you want for your birthday?  I refuse to turn up at a birthday bash without at least some gift.  So, what's it to be... bottle of something nice to drink, a book, a CD...?

Well at the last minute we decided that the fact that my opponents fielded their reserves Sunday and that our next league game was way more important we decided to throw the game tonight. 5-4-1 pressing engaged.

Guess what, 1-0 up! My WC set piece player yet again!

Cheers. Looks like Bob C is winning, HKB is drawing but MtS is getting trounced. Think we're the only ones left.

"SZFC's ability to press their opponents all over the field paid off frequently"

Mwahahahahaha!!!

Wohoo!! We held out for a classic pressing 1-0 victory, makes it even sweeter as we PiC'd!

ShrimperZone FC - NOTTS VERY CASUAL 1 - 0

Date: 07/06/2005 at 21.00
MatchID: 46043150
Arena: Garon Park
Crowd: 13351

13351 spectators arrived at Garon Park, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. SZFC tactics involved an interesting 5-4-1 combination. The following players had been chosen: Jochumsen - Vangsnes, Stougaard, Mañas, Marchini, Dielis - Hardy, Kohout, Bastiaans, Bjordal - Gansberger.

CASUAL started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Riera - Domínguez, Lakos, Hedquist - Hermansson, Barclay, Johansson, Rothkvist, Mitchell - Stufosu, Prakash.

SZFC immediately set off pressing their opponents. In the 16:th minute the home side were awarded a penalty. The visitors protested wildly but the referee was adamant. Giacomo Marchini easily put the 1 - 0 goal away for SZFC. 20 minutes into the game Ronan Gansberger had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came Hareaipha Nyathi. With 23 minutes played the visitors almost levelled the score. Swapanan Prakash shot a hard curved free kick, striking the post. In the game's 24th minute, SZFC's Hareaipha Nyathi fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Hareaipha Nyathi for taking a dive. The teams went for a half-time break at 1 - 0. CASUAL, bringing the final ball possession rate to 60 percent, dominated the battle.

SZFC's ability to press their opponents all over the field paid off frequently. CASUAL held the ball, with a clear 65 percent possession rate.

SZFC's best player was Siegmar Kohout. Jean-Yves Hardy was a disappointment, however. Most important CASUAL player was Per Rothkvist. Sholto Mitchell on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 0.

Nice one, Mr. B. Alas, my decision to play (a) my cack midfielder and (b) my 2nd XI forwards backfired. Lost 4-3... so close to pulling it back in the last 10 minutes.

Hey ho.

Matt

Well i forgot to set my team again, been to busy at work and having these Mondays off in leiu keeps screwing up my mind about what the day actually is.

My default team is my first team minus to IMs due to transfer activity. So I ended up with a the CD sub in my midfield. Still won 4-2 away might but i have screwed up another training session with only half the IMs getting trained.

Methinks my flirtation with level IV will end soon.

Well it's a Level III team for me next. 265 hatstats / 59 stars from the first team but a much weaker 2nd string. However, the league must be the priority now so I won't be going for it too much.

DivII opponents next week. He has 6 players with TSI in excess of 50,000, including one who is 100,000+.

In fact my top 7 players combined TSI is less than 50,000.

The form monkey is also decimating the form of my team, I MOTS'd last cup game in order to reach my record midfield of inadequate v. low. He can reach midfields of world class.

I'm hoping he'll play his reserves.

I am away to DivIV opponents, how the hell can i be considered the favourites in this clash?

OH well time to spend that £2mill on young IM.

I guess we'll have to wait and see whether any of us qualify for the next round! I think we can safely say that myself and HKB will be going out but I guess Bob_C has a chance as he pretty much knows he'll be relegated and can field a strong line up for the cup game (if he chooses to do that!).

As per a previous post in another thread.

augurs well for the SZ Cup (if that's played again this year!)...

Of course it will be.

On that note people please let me know if you will be interested to participate.

We will be starting the same time as Round 6 of the cup

I guess that will answer your question!!

Er <<cough cough>>

I haven't written off my chances just yet.

I may yet be able to pull off an upset. His world class midfield was presumably MOTS, if he picks and plays his reserves (like he did last cup game), I may be able to spring a shock.
