Craig Fagan/Danny Guthrie

Just seen that Fagan's leg got broken after that atrocious tackle hack by Guthrie. I really hope The FA come down on him after that, frustration isn't an excuse, that was appalling.

An absolute shocker, that. I also hope Mehdi Nafti gets the book thrown at him after that dreadful tackle in the Brum vs Doncaster game.

Good suggestion on talksport this morning, for such horrifice deliberate assault (and it is assault) the perpetrator should be suspended for the same length of the time that the victim is out injured.

Bad idea imo, it would just lead to clubs holding back players for longer if it means the perpetrator is out for longer.

Why would it? I don't think clubs would be that petty you don't play them every week and I am sure Newcastle have the cover for Guthrie and Hull would want Fagan back asap.

It was absolutely disgusting that "challenge" but there seemed to be an awful lot of sending offs this weekend after watching MOTD and Championship on my day off yesterday.

Say a decent player eg Gerrard breaks a fringe players leg such as Nicklas Bendtner. Arsenal could decide to keep Bendtner out for longer as he's not as important to Arsenal as Gerrard is to Liverpool, therefore disadvantaging Liverpool as Arsenal may slow down Bendtner's recovery to disadvantage a rival team.

Why will it effect them? They won't be playing Liverpool every week. Surely the FA could keep an eye on this anyway.

well surely this is the point.

it would act as a deterent to these so called proffesionals not to make such reckless challenges?

If he knew this was the punishment it might deter him from breaking his leg in the first place.

I think it would have to be monitored with regard to intent. The Guthrie incident was clearly intentional. Ban him for 6 months.
