Covent Garden

Sorry for the ‘exciting’ thread but need to pick the brains of my fellow knowledgeable shrimpers…

Going to Punch and Judy in Covent garden and then on to the comedy store tonight. Not feeling too well so aint up for drinking (much) n really cant be assed with getting trains. The CC stops at 6 (I think) so thought id just drive into the city.

So the question is – anyone know any places to park near Covent garden or Leicester square? Is it more than likely ill have to pay?

Cheers fellas and er ‘fella-ettes’

Parking anywhere in central london is a nightmare, I did it once and vowed never again

Also it will cost you an arm and a leg

Best off speaking to Dts who may be able to sort you out with a mortgage for those parking charges!!

I thought the parking meters stopped charging for parking after a certain time in the evening or has that been phased out? If it has there is an NCP in SOHO and another one near Leicster Square down the same road as the comedy club.

You could try heading to Lincoln's Inn Fields. It's a 10 minute stroll from Covent Garden, and there's plenty of parking space on one side of the square. I don't know what time the meters stop charging, but it's certainly a f%&k-sight cheaper than an NCP.

Yep, plenty of places north (or just south) of New Oxford Street in the Holburn/British Museum/Red Lion Square area (where meters generally stop charging at 6pm) and it's a short walk from there.

No worries...

The whole thing is one-way, and a bit of a biatch to get into (it's off Kingsway). But you'll have no problems parking up there - I've never seen it full up whilst winding home after a sesh.

Map

Make sure you get on to Kingsway in the Southbound direction. Enter by the road which is "greyed out" by the borough boundary on the map (it's called Sardinia Street). It's immediately after a building that's got a bunch of scaffolding, which obscures the turning. Then take first left in LI (which you have to, as it's one-way), and that's where all the spaces are.

London meters usually stop at about 6 to half past. I don't know for sure on these ones, and, to be quite frank, I can't be arsed to the leave the office and find out.

Always tend to park up behind temple tube station or around there and as mr stokes said is free after 6.30 and all day sunday.

Oh Covent garden is about 5 mins walk from there

I'd be very careful about parking meter times in the West End. They definitely stop at 6-6.30 in the City but from memory much later (unsurprisingly) in the West End. I'm just checking now.

Edit- OK it does look like 6.30pm for most West End zones but be very, very careful.

Punch and Judy? Last time I went to go there it weren't there! Admittedly it was about 5 yrs ago , but used to be a regular stopping point before getting lashed round Shaftesbury Ave. God , I sound like a luvvy, anyway, has it re-opened?

Yep Punch and Judy open – very nice beer on the balcony over looking the square of Covent garden. Hats off to rubber jonny, parked exactly where he said and had no problems, didn’t cost a thing.
