Could this be a blessing in disguise?

Where art thou Tes 🦐
Thinking albeit optimistically, I wonder if in a years time we will look back at this relegation as a blessing in disguise?

Lets think about it rationally. We clear out a few players that are the higher earners and bring in some players that are hungry to prove themselves on lesser wages. Maybe take a punt on a few non-leaguers on small wages [~£500 p/w] and a couple pay off. Looking optimistically and hoping we have some money to spend (£200k would be nice) then if Tilson manages to wheel and deal to get us a squad together based around some of the players we've already got we could grab a top 7 spot. Who knows, we could even get promoted.

All I'm saying is this is a good opportunity to trim the wage bill, bring in some hungry players and [hopefully] get us used to winning again. One of the factors in the team that won League 1 is that they were used to going out winning. If we do the above and manage to get promotion in the next couple of years it will probably be more of a blessing than staying in this league and treading water and finishing in the lower echelons of League One.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that we will look back at this relegation and realise it wasn't all that bad, but actually did us some good. Here's hoping, at least.

Good point, I remember when we went down in 1989 I think it was, having stayed up on the last day of the season the year before. I think actually had more points as well.

The season after we bounced straight back with DW in charge, and then straight up into what is now the championship.

Not saying we will, but if we can bounce back, then in a years time the stadium will be well on its way, and we "in theory" have some funds to try an go straight through League one again.

i do see this as our chance to get rid of a lot of dead wood. i know exactly who i would keep and who i would gladly see walk out the door but unfortunately it won't be that easy.

No its not, its a disaster, we are the lowest placed team in the South East other than Daggers who could still go up, but at least its a fresh start.

New start, hopefully we can see more of our young players from our strong youth team get a game in the Pre Season, we need to keep at least 90% of our team and add mixture of experince League 2 pros and up and coming players from Non League like Holmes from Chelmsford. I would be happy to be around the play off, less than top 7 by Christmas is not good enough.

Don't you mean upgrade?

ps Welcome back

lol, upgrade is needed of course! I am backing Tilson for next season, I know the problem with Ron Martin etc but I rather leave him to finish the job he started and get the new stadium built soon as possible in the summer. What we needed for next season is to settle down and move forward and we don't need to chop and change the team week in and out!

I like optimism, but I fear that this is an over-optimistic view.

But what the hell - let's take the over-optimistic view, as long as we don't expect out over-optimism to actually come off.

Next season I'd be happy to rid the club of expansive wages and bring in hungry players on wages comparitive to our League position in order to compliment some of the younger players we have. Of course, I'd like to think we could compete for promotion, but the last thing we need to be doing is responding in the same vein we did when we were relegated from League One.

Cheer guys - I hope we can forget the past and look forward to the summer of transfer, we need to get at least 8 players in good non league and experinced League 2 pros, who are hungry for sucess and hopefully they can settled down in pre-season, we need two wingers with speeds too to go with our strong midfield (if we keep the like of Moussa).
